L'Eau de vie — Restaurant in Nice

an absolute gem 💎came to try their lunch set as this place was on the michelin guide of restaurants in nice, and i was definitely not disappointed at all :-) for 28 euros, you get an entrée, a main and a dessert! (the daily menu may change slightly from day to day)

this is what i ordered: entrée: beef tartare main: sea bass fillet dessert: matcha cheesecake

i can’t remember the exact combination of sauces and garnishes for each dish as it was in french, but the subtle infusion of japanese flavours complemented each dish so well :-)

a special shoutout to the lovely japanese lady who was managing the service for all tables - there was a small hiccup during my time there as i waited close to an hour for my dessert. after alerting one of the staff (i think it was the chef, who came out for a quick breather after the lunch hours), it got served immediately together with a string of apologies. i totally understand how hectic it had been for the lady who’s been waiting on all the tables both inside and outside of the restaurant, so i don’t blame anyone for it! but she still offered a cup of japanese tea which was a really nice gesture!

this shows the excellent customer service that l’eau de vie has, and i’ll definitely...

Unless you are french you will be treated with disrespect and an incredible amount of arrogance. To the waiter that was forced to put his cigarette out when we walked up .. sorry pal. the eye roll was not necessary.

We were the first in with a special birthday reservations ... this rude waiter handed us an English menu and walked away (I am fluent in french but spoke to my husband in english) ... 2 other parties came in after us, got seated and offered drinks ... they actually went and got their wine bottles & cocktails ... when we asked what about our service? he said: “so OK then .. what you want”

We wanted to be treated with dignity & respect; something this waiter is not aware of nor will ever understand. What a horrible reflection on what might be a Michelin star chef. We know decent service, dined at a 3 Michelin star restaurant last night n Monaco .. only reason we did not go back is that they are closed on Tuesdays.

Just because I speak english does not mean i don't understand what you said about us .. several mentions of OK service in reviews ..

I had a very disappointing dining experience at this restaurant in June. The Japanese female server, who also seemed to be the owner, exhibited blatantly racist behavior. She was expressionless and cold towards us, Chinese customers, but was exceedingly friendly and welcoming towards white customers, which was quite exaggerated and obvious.

Despite the restaurant having many empty tables, she insisted on seating us at the worst table, claiming that the other tables were reserved. Throughout our meal, she persistently recommended the most expensive dishes, and even when I firmly requested cheaper options, she continued to push the pricier items.

The food itself was quite average, but the poor service made the entire experience deeply uncomfortable. The combination of mediocre food and such discriminatory service led to an extremely unpleasant dining experience. I strongly advise against visiting this racist establishment.
