We waited 6months for an underwhelming dinner.

This is a detailed review because we feel it’s only fair for those, who like ourselves value fine food. We have broken this review down by food, service, price and atmosphere; so that you can get the full reasoning for our rating.

We booked Le Plengoir 6months before our trip to Nice as it has a waitlist. But can sadly say we won’t be coming again or recommending it to our friends. The waitlist instantly made us assume that this was a place worth waiting for. In fact, the only reason we discovered it, is because on our previous trip to Nice we met a food critic who was set to go and review it, and so we thought we would book ready for our next trip to Nice.

So let’s get into it;

Service First we want to highlight how good the service was and how friendly and welcoming the staff were. Attentive always ensuring our glass was topped up with wine.

Atmosphere Let’s be honest this is clearly an Instagram destination not a foodie one. And even when at the restaurant it feels like it’s all style no substance. The music they’re playing was a strange mix of 80s and 90s pop. Which we don’t hate but does not have a place at a fine dine restaurant. Maybe at a bar but not at a restaurant. Sitting eating your food while listening to Lionel Richie or Robert Palmers Addicted to Love was a first for us. 😂 Another thing that makes this more of an Instagram destination than one for real foodies; is how many people spend the whole evening just taking selfies of themselves with the view. It’s a little bit cringe worthy and does spoil the atmosphere as everyone’s trying to just get the best shot. It’s also full of brits and Americans (yes ironic because we’re Brits) but from our experience truly great places are usually filled with just as many locals as tourists. This felt more like a tourist destination. We went in April where they were having rain and wind; so definitely wrap up because there are no heaters, just blankets.

Food The starters were ok. We had the crab and the octopus. The crab was delicious and seasoned well. A very good blend of flavours which was light and refreshing. The octopus was cooked well, but the accompaniments of this didn’t blow our minds. In fact it felt like all the flavours on the plate just kept over powering each other. The mains was the biggest disappointment. We had the sea bass and cod. The cod with the bouillabaisse was most disappointing. As the famous dish of the riveria it was flavourless and the potatoes that accompanied it were under cooked. The sea bass again was underwhelming. Watery with slimy skin. We did give feedback to the staff and they provided us with a glass of champagne. That was it. Nothing was taken off the bill. We didn’t bother with dessert as we didn’t want to continue the disappointment.

Price Overpriced food. We are very privileged that we have eaten in fine dining and Michelin restaurants. We’ve spent less on better food in other places. If this wasn’t where it was, it wouldn’t have its reputation. It’s the view you pay for not the food.

We wish we had read the reviews before booking. As many of the other reviews say, just take a picture or go to the bar. Don’t waste your money on the food.

Disappointing, as if the food and atmosphere were better this place could be as magical as it looks and an iconic foodie destination in Nice. Instead it...

I made a reservation for this restaurant months in advance. I went out of my way in my work travels to try this restaurant because of the beautiful views. Walking into a restaurant without a reservation by myself I have been put in smaller corners because it is easy and I am alone during my travels. Understandable. That being said, I made this reservation THREE months in advance. This should not be the case. My view should not be the street trash cans. There were girls that were sat next to me that just got their reservation and they were moved to a “better view.” (This happened twice while I sat in an even worse spot). The only light in the section I was in was a tiny candle. I felt like I was hidden away in the corner. I noticed immediately how the staff interacted with me versus other customers. They were told the specials and details about what food was being served. Their meals were spread out over a decent amount of time. I was sat down and asked my meal course immediately while being questioned about my work, financial, and if I was staying in a good hotel. My food had been delivered and I’d eaten before the family that was already seated when I sat down was even served their meal. Overall I felt very rushed in the meal itself. If you’re wondering if this place survives on the view alone or if the food is really good. I can tell you first hand (because I did not have the view) that the food is not what keeps this place running. I ordered the zucchini fritters for my first meal. They tasted like something you would get at a carnival and severely lacked zucchini. (They had minimal shredded zucchini in them). I then had the beef dinner with mashed potatoes. I will give them that the mashed potatoes were very good and flavorful, but the beef steak was chewy and tough. My reservation was 9:15 and i was done eating two courses by 9:45/10. I asked for my check and didn’t get it for 45 mins. This is typical for France, but at this point I felt unwelcome and I just wanted to leave. I must note I travel a lot for work and go to upscale restaurants by myself and I have never had this experience before. I watched as other couples asked for their checks and were immediately given. This place seems to prioritize those that they looked like they had money and rushed or forgot about those that didn’t seem important. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place. It is prettier from the outside. I wish I didn’t spend the money to look at trash cans and listen to the host turn another guest away for the tenth time in...

I came to this bar specifically, traveling from another city just to take a photo in this place. That’s why I ordered a juice that cost €14 and sat down at a table. I drank the juice quickly so I could take some nice pictures afterward.

First of all, I originally ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail, but no one listened to me. Even though I changed my order, the waitress just said “okay” and walked away, then brought me an orange juice instead of the mocktail I had asked for.

After that, I started taking photos — and it was specifically me they approached and told to leave. Before that, I had already gone up to them and pointed out that they made a mistake with my order. But instead of correcting it, they decided to take revenge on me and kicked me out rudely, even though I had paid for the juice.

I drank the juice quickly and then mentioned that they had been rude to me and got my order wrong — and right after that, they started forcing me to leave, just because I began taking photos after finishing my drink. I didn’t go far or linger — I finished my juice and immediately started taking pictures.

But they immediately told me to leave, and all of this happened because I dared to point out their mistake and their rude behavior.

I do not recommend this place. It may look nice, but the staff is awful. The girls working there are unprofessional, and the prices are extremely high. They didn’t even tell me how much the juice actually cost — while the full-alcoholic cocktails were €15.

I drink Juse 5 min and go make a picture,it’s was so rude and this girls really

(This women Rude, ill-mannered, and arrogant — they simply don’t know how to treat customers. How do you even hire people like this if they don’t know how to behave properly? This is the most unpleasant place I’ve seen in France. People like that don’t even deserve to work in decent establishments. They should see a psychologist to learn how to be calmer...
