restaurant chinois Yangtse Riviera — Restaurant in Nice

Wandering the streets of Nice later at night, hungry but not in the mood for more French or Italian, turned down by Franchin for a table for one, I walked by hole in the wall, Yangtse Riviera. I thought, "actually Chinese may hit the spot," and, encouraged by the positive reviews, I walked in. The female server was cleary busy, but cheerful and welcoming. She sat me down promptly and handed me a menu. I was excited to see Beef in bouillon (Shui Zhu Niu Rou | 水煮牛肉) on the menu which I typically order at every Chinese restaurant that has it on the menu... It was hands down one of the best versions of 水煮牛肉 I have ever had, and I have had A LOT. It was absolutely fantastic, so flavorful, spicy but not painful, the beef was tender and the vegetables perfectly absorbed the flavor of the stock. Truly a gem of a restaurant. All good reviews took me to this restaurant. Very disappointed. Only steam dumping was acceptable. The Hong Kong duck was dry. The portion was so small with mostly bone. The other dishes, the sauce was so starchy and you would not see the meat in thick starchy sauce. The vegetable dish was cover with thick oyster sauce. Also all dishes were in sweet side. The service was Ok, but after the answer of the duck was fresh delivery today, in fact it was apparently few days old.

Might be we ordered the wrong dishes for dinner. However we would not go back to try again when we come...

A long wait to take orders and serve food , however this was due to disorganisation for the solo server who appeared attentive but overwhelmed. She could have carried 2-3 dirty plates each time she returned to the back of house , but guess it did not occur to her . The food was okay a bit salty and small portions but prices reasonable for Nice . The restaurant did appear popular as there were many customers. In the end a peace offering of peanuts to quell the despair of the wait which might have been due to...
