I was really excited to eat authentic Vietnamese when I got to Paris. The food service was abysmally slow. We (2 people) arrived at Friday night at 9:30PM. Two groups (one of 5 and one of 2) came in after us and left before us, and I saw multiple takeaway orders leave the restaurant. I hadn't eaten since midday so was excited for the food, as pho should be very quick by nature and as it continues to cook in the bowl. It should only take a few minutes to put together.
Har gau came after maybe 20 minutes. My friend's food (not pho but egg noodle) came after 40. I ordered a coffee after my friend's food came, because I was falling asleep - it took 15 minutes to arrive and I could see them literally next to my table not making it and talking among themselves (I speak Mandarin so I understood they were not talking about work at all). My food finally arrived at 10:30PM (when the restaurant is supposed to close). After that I had to walk 10 mins to get cash as I had not seen a sign for cash only (perhaps my mistake).
There was no apology or acknowledgment of the long wait on their part which was pretty disappointing. I have worked as a server so I understand it can be overwhelming but the tables who arrived first need to be served first. Doesn't make sense to put later tables orders through before. While my food tasted alright, waiting over an hour for it while seeing other tables who came AFTER me eat and leave is not, and ruined my experience. I...
Read moreThe best Vietnamese restaurant I’ve been to besides in vietnam itself. Myself, mother and grandparents (all Vietnamese) have been traveling throughout Europe for the past 7 weeks. When we arrived to Paris we were craving Vietnamese. We scoured the internet to find some restaurants most of which were in the 13th area. We honestly were too tired and lazy to make our way there and looked up the closest one to our hotel. I was nervous. The reviews said that the owners weren’t Vietnamese and the restaurants close proximity to the Eiffel Tower freaked us out. But, nonetheless even though our waiters didn’t speak Vietnamese, the smell and flavors of all the dishes wowed my grandparents. The next day we went to Dong Huong which was recommended to us and agreed that Dong Phat beat it 50 times over. We ended up going back to Dong phat for two straight days after that. Everything was delicious. My grandmother chastised me about ordering banh xeo at a restaurant but took her words back when it came out. The pho was astounding. So beyond impressed. The location is a amazing and the food...
Read moreFor me this place is pretty well rated cause tourists and some people have no idea how good other pho places in Paris are! (This is my subjective opinion of course :)) Sometimes we even call that parisian cuisine specialty is vietnamese food. Of course they offer pretty attractive price range considering that it’s located near the eiffel tower so tourists think that it’s a nice affair but according to my so-called pho expert friends who’ve been to tons of pho places in Paris, Dong Phat was way below our first tier pho restaurants :( well I mean, if you’re just a tourist simply looking for a cheap, fast and non-touristy restaurant close to the eiffel tower, I won’t say that you’re making a bad choice. So if you’re not looking for a veeeery delicious pho place, it could be ok but for us, pho lover locals, it wasn’t the case! Oh and the owner is not from vietnam but from China. Doesn’t matter that much but personally I think it’s always a better option and more tasty when the restaurant is owned by the people from that country :) Voilà,...
