ABEL Montmartre — Restaurant in Paris

Friendly, crowded, people streaming in for the football match on tv. They serve up pizzas which I’m sure are marvelous but we were there because I had read all the reviews about their tagine! Visiting Paris? Passing through the 18eme? Live nearby? This is where you want to stop. We ordered the vegetarian tagine. It’s made entirely sweet with cinnamon and spices, honey, dried peaches, prunes, and golden raisins. You might think it wouldn’t work but this works!! Yum! Also, we tried a few couscous restaurants across town. There’s one in Quartier Latin that is terrible. Dry flat tiny couscous. ABEL makes plump, fluffy, steamed couscous that will warm your heart. Found this place almost by accident, looking for a late night dinner after a long day. Right around the corner from our airbnb, we could not have made a better choice. The staff were welcoming and the space is very cozy. It felt like a locals place, with people coming to chat with the bartender and there were always people sitting out front and smoking and having coffee anytime I would walk by. We were staying around the corner and stopped in here for dinner. We had lamb tagine and chicken and sausage couscous as well as glasses of wine. It was a very delicious meal and enough food that we could take some home for lunch the next day. The restaurant is small and comfortable and the server was friendly and able to speak in English with us. My only small concern was that the cigarette smoke smell does waft in when the front door is opened but it did not affect our meal quality.
