We were waiting in line to be let inside the speakeasy, we were talking as a group of 5, and the bouncer kept sushing us. So we were trying to be quiet, and then we were let inside and the waiter inside said he heard we were “making a ruckus” outside. We were pushed into a random corner and we tried ordering so drinks. Some people were seated before us, but the waiter said these people were here first and the next table open would be ours. We were in this corner in the way, so we asked if we could sit at some stools on the bar out of the way, while we waited for the next table. The waiter agreed saying three could sit and two could stand, and the next table would be ours. As a few of us were sitting and standing at the bar, we noticed multiple parties after us getting seated. We asked the waiter if we could get the next table, as other parties after us were getting seated and we were confused. He then shrugged and told his coworker to talk to us. His coworker said we sat at the bar which forfeited our right to get a table, we then said we asked to wait there for a table and the waiter said yes. He refused to listen and said we didn’t get the right to, but he’ll give us the next available table. Meanwhile the waiter cowardly became quiet and avoided our eyes, so he didn’t have to face us, after telling us we could get a table. We then watched another party get seated at a table, so we then went back to the coworker and asked why they got seated and when we could get seated and then again he tried to shut us up and was very rude, so we asked to speak with the manager. The manager was the main bartender who actually had witnessed the whole situation unfold. She asked us to explain the situation, we did, and she again said that we didn’t get the right to a table by sitting at a bar and we said we didn’t understand that and the original waiter told us we could wait there. She then said okay, pay for your drinks and leave. She had seen my friend talk to the waiter and the coworker multiple times and did nothing. If you’re a tourist, don’t come here, they’ll discriminate and give you...
Read moreSept 2025: have been a customer since 2021, last reviewed in 2022. Lots changed! I’m glad that tacos are back in full swing with flavor, fantastic no complaints. Chicken tacos being crispy is a fantastic touch. Meat is perfect on the rest. THE SERVICE HOWEVER, what happened so rude… arrived and sat down at 18:45 were at the table for 40 min, finished eating but my friend still had half her beer to finish. Server offered a table at the bar to which we agreed happily to go continue our night and spend more money at Candelaria. However, once we stood up we were told by the bouncer that we’d have to wait outside for the table at the bar, IN THE RAIN… which we purposely avoided by coming earlier.. granted there was a Q however its first service and we left a good cover some of 46€. If you are offering a table at the bar for us to move and give u space, YOU MUST CHECK WITH YOUR COLLÈGUE THAT THERE ARE TABLES AVAILABLE!! Being rushed is unacceptable especially not even 60 min into our meal… if people are Qing it’s their porpogative to wait not ours to get out quicker.. appalling and super disappointing… at the end was given a back handed under nosed apology from the waiter! Once again back to being an over hyped tourist trap, all they want is quick turn over. Sad… oh and the guy said their Ticket Resto doesn’t work either… 😂 would only recommend it to go don’t bother sitting down for sur place service.
Dec 2022 review: Tried the new menu. Super fragrant, it’s overwhelming. The pickled onions are extremely vinegary. The meat seemed a bit chewy. The potato & meat taco was very good though. The staff is lovely, always positive energy. The margaritas are a lovely treat, always. Menu expensive for the overall...
Read moreBlink and you’ll miss it. This brightly lit taqueria, just off of the trendy rue de Bretagne, hides a subterranean, semi-secret party space where a world of caipirinhas and nightly DJs awaits. To gain entry to this world, it’s best to look like you expect nothing more than a few Mexican snacks (market-fresh and truly authentic) at the street level café, as opposed to rocking up with five friends and fighting a losing battle with the pretentious door staff. “We’re here for a few tacos” will do nicely. Once comfortably inside, having knocked back a few €5 margaritas and soft tacos (prepared right in front of you), make your way to the anonymous door at the end of the bar… and bam! Welcome to a stylishly underdressed crowd of cute chicks and guys with their hair in buns getting to know each other on cozy, cushioned, candle-lit banquettes. As well as having a pool of DJs with eclectic taste (think electro one minute and 80’s hysteria the next), this place scores 9/10 for cocktail snobbery. And it would score a full 10 if only they weren’t €12 each and so damn good that you can’t help but spend your entire vacation budget in one night. With rum- and tequila-based recipes made lovingly using fresh ingredients, staying sober is not an option. (There is no happy hour). Be prepared to elbow your way to the bar and wait patiently for the bartender to craft your pepper-infused tequila cocktail with fresh cucumber slices after a string of others and a handful of custom orders. If dungeonesque party spots aren’t your thing, try Candelaria in the daytime. The light is let in, transforming the space into a comfortable laptop hangout with an inexpensive lunch menu...
