This restaurant feels like an intro to trendy food. The cuisine was nothing too crazy but had some interesting flair and the prices were not outrageous. To start we had pate and wine and for dinner we had two orders of the vegetarian special (it was a celery risotto), a steak with mushroom and polenta, and a truffle risotto. I did not try to pate but my friends said it was underwhelming. The bread it was served with was stupendous though. The wine was not great but drinkable. As for dinner we were surprised by our celery risotto. I believe there was a miscommunication since we do not speak french but we though it was a regular Italian risotto with with celery and other vegetables. However it was really celery root cooked in the fashion of risotto with no actual rice and some truffle shavings. This might be a french style of risotto so I wouldn’t take points off for it. Plus it was quite good and the presentation was nice. The truffle risotto was made with pastallini and had a nice truffle flavor. My friends however did not really enjoy their steak. They complained it lacked salt, the mushrooms were literally just raw and scattered on top of flavorless polenta. The service was also quite slow and the server ignored us many times when were trying to...
Read moreHaving slowly worked my way through the trendy restaurants of Paris' 10eme arrondissement, I finally got around to booking a table at Gros and found myself wondering why I hadn't been sooner. The dishes on the menu are creative and inspired, from blue prawns to poached quail. The desserts are a must-try, too! The lunch menu is surprisingly affordable, at €19 for two courses and €23 for three. Grab a table on the...
