I visited La Fine Mouse twice--the beer/pub part, not the restaurant. My female company wanted to to come here due to the variety of beers. I tend to drink IPA types, and my friend is more adventurous. On the first night, the barkeeps seemed surprised and put upon that we asked for samples. My friend and I even shared the same miniscule sample from the same glass. We are accustomed to the generous English and Irish practice of offering samples until the patron finds the desired beer.
On this second more pleasant visit, we had a couple barkeeps who appeared to enjoy their job and who tried to be helpful. On the second visit we also ordered a plate of cheese and bread, for 15 euro and I thought it a good deal. I asked one of the bartenders if I could could have more bread, and he replied, "Why, of course. You are in France! That is a redundant question."
I burst into laughter and had to agree!
Our second visit was very pleasant, and we were given samples of beer, and made a meal of cheese and bread, which was tasty.
As for the providing of samples of beer, American brew pubs also need to learn from the English and Irish, instead of treating customers as if they were thieves.
I enjoyed drinking and eating at La Fine Mouse pub. There is a large...
Read moreWe really love the La Fine Mousse (excellent beer selection with frequently rotating taps and good service) so we were very excited to try La Fine Mouse Restaurant. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to expectations. However, I will give them credit where it is due. I called on Saturday afternoon and reserved a table for 7 people which was amazing because of the lateness of the request and the size of our group. Unfortunately, the tap list was very, very limited in comparison to the bar. Also, the service was exceptionally poor. It is normal to wave down/gesture to your waiter in Paris, but we were waving her down and she was acknowledging us and then not coming over. We sat for long stretches with empty glasses... The food was sharing plates, that looked like they should be very tasty, but all the flavors were sort of flat. From this point on I will stick to the planches and the beers at...
Read moreThey've done a very nice job with this bar, a relaxed light-filled place with some wonderful French and Belgian beers on Tap. But it just won't cut the mustard with a serious beer tourist. Too expensive. Although they sell a couple of decent 25 cl draughts such as Volcelest at €3.50 (which is what passes reasonable in a city where you can easily pay more for Kronenbourg), most are €5+. The is no reduction for ordering a "pint" or rather 50 cl. Beer is a volume thing and they want to get their customers consuming, not sipping. Mediaeval monks understood this. Gulp, gulp and more gulp. Too many gimmicky special editions from Denmark (guess who), Norway etc and too many of Brewdog's shampoo flavoured rubbish. To the detriment of beers that say NOTHING about one's lifestyle. Terrible music. 80s. Not good 80s. And Roxette. Cease and desist, gentlemen. Otherwise, first-class. A work...
