Read moreI can't help but feel that we were here on an off night based on other reviews. Or maybe people just enjoy the experience of eating in a Parisian bistro.
Started with a dark and stormy that was so sweet it nearly put me in a diabetic coma. Hyperbole aside, my teeth are still recovering. I asked, instead, for a Vesper martini as I'd spotted a bottle of Lillet. Somehow they managed to make it taste like soap. I managed one sip before pushing it away. In fairness, I'm told that the regular bartender was not there. That knowledge did not make the drinks taste better.
The first dish was decent. A gougeres lardon with a very cheese forward flavor. Nice and puffy, but with a concentration on one particular flavor. We had a tempura white fish with a STRONG scent of fish. Even the black tempura tasted of it, as did the vegetables to the side. At home, the smell of this fish would prompt me to bin it and cook something else. I suppose that's different here. We also tried a chickpea loaf of some kind, dense as a Japanese city. Nothing subtle about it.
Each dish seemed to use a lot of ingredients only to ensure that one particular flavour would punch you in the face and say, "It's me, I'm here!" Decent environment, but more pretentious than a Canadian tourist ordering a vesper in a French restaurant. Our most disappointing Parisian dining experience. The salami and harissa panini around the corner saved...
Read moreThis restaurant is truly amazing, the food, the staff and the atmosphere are second to none !
The food is based on creative small plates using seasonal produce from a local farm. Each dish is so delicious and unique and at a very healthy price point. To top it all off the chef Edward is a cheeky British chap who likes to sing along to classic tunes while running a very efficient operation in the kitchen. He’s busy communicating in French and English with a constant smile and hussle, it is very entertaining to watch and really adds to the neighbourhood vibe of this place. I might just be a little in love with him.
The sommelier is equally passionate and entertaining and there is a fantastic selection of natural wines to compliment the to die for food. I wish I could give this place 6 stars.
Thank you for creating this...
