Hotel Scarlett is for the solo traveller. I stayed with my partner and it was definitely not big enough. The rooms are poky and the bathroom (albeit heated floor which in 30 degree heat wasn’t really necessary was a nice touch) was so small and had nowhere for someone with products to keep them.
Good WiFi and lovely staff is what makes it a 3 star for me, and they stored our luggage which was very kind as our Eurostar train was not until the evening.
Shame they don’t serve any water to guests though other than the mini bar which was what I was pushed towards. I had to leave and frequent the nearby McDonald’s in order to get some water late at night. There is a Carrefour nearby which is good for tourists but closes around 10pm.
The area itself is on the brink of the 19th arrondissement in Paris and one you don’t particularly want to be wandering at night as a tourist, let alone a young woman.
View of the Eiffel Tower as you walk down the hill is very scenic at night and nearby if you are able to visit there is Parc de Belleville which at night has a lovely view of the city at the top. There are a few good restaurants and brunch spots open around there also and it’s a 5 min walk max from the hotel and away from the busy main road.
Across the other direction is Parc des Buttes-Chaumont which really is a must visit with a baguette and some picnic bits.
Hotel was clean, smelt nice and had good offerings for breakfast, it’s just small and...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to our trip here (booked pre-covid) but then our flights were cancelled 3 months ago due to the pandemic. We contacted the hotel straight away but were told we had booked a non-cancellable and non-transferable room so they were not willing to let us cancel the room.|We repeatedly messaged them as various quarantine rules became in force but always with the same result. |I then messaged a final time this week due to the Paris curfew (ie e writhing closing at 9pm) to be told “Dear Mr. Smith,|You have made a non-modifiable and non-cancellable reservation.|The Scarlett hotel is still open. The curfew is from 9pm to 6am and every body must adapt to this exceptional situation.|We are sorry to announce you that we can not refund or defer the booking.|Best regards,|The management”|Several other hotels that I and my friends have booked have worked with us to try and compromise (eg take a deposit, defer through booking to 2021 etc) so I am extremely disappointed in the hotel’s attitude. “Non-cancellabe and non-refundable” do not really apply to the conditions we are all living in during 2020 so to have them thrown back in my face by a robotic reservations clerk is frustrating...
Read moreWe were happy to stay in a less touristy part of the city and this area can certainly be described as urban gritty. It is easy to walk to either Belleville or Pyrenees for the metro - line 11 - and if you take it to the end and get off at Chatelet, there are loads of connection options||The room was big (by Paris standards) - we booked a superior room to get a bit more space. It was very clean and bright with 2 large windows fronted by juliet balconies - it was nice to open the windows and let in some fresh air and we were on the 4th floor so the noise level was ok. The bathroom is small, but the shower was excellent - a big walk in space with loads of pressure and piping hot water at all times||Staff are friendly although we didn't have much interaction with them to be fair. We had breakfast one day - which is a decent enough spread - but at 14 euros a head probably not worth it - you can get better deals at local cafes. There are lots of bars and eateries nearby to choose from||If we had a couple of gripes, it would be that there was no hand towel - just a big towel each, and it would have been nice to have a mirror in the bedroom - the only one was in the bathroom, but these are...
