I visited this place with my friend who travelled to Japan with me for 2 weeks. Provided that the speciality of this place is Oinari-san, we ordered a set menu of Oinari-san with high expectations. The taste of oinari-san is just ok, but age and rice both taste a little bland. Personally, I prefer Inarizushi with more dashi-taste. Also, we originally chose a protein of our set menu as salmon, but salmon was not available more when we arrived at 1pm, so opted for chicken. I expected grilled chicken but the dish was karaage, deep-fried chicken, which I usually refrain from. If this is deep-fried chicken, it should be more appreciated if mentioned on the menu. My friend added gyoza, but it was also deep-fried…For the dessert, we had dorayaki and sesame/goma daifuku, these were good, better than main dishes. Lastly, another friend accompanied us for the first 10 mins to chat, sitting next to us, without ordering. The owner came to me, and explained in Japanese that all customers having a seat should order without exceptions. The table next to us was vacant. Even my friends didn’t understand Japanese, they understood what he meant and how cold or stiff...
Read moreDelicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and some of best sake that I've ever tasted. I visited Oinari for lunch with a friend. We each ordered a lunch set: he had a duck donburi; I had cold udon. Both meals came with a bowl of white miso soup with green onions to start and a light desert to finish, a castella for me and dorayaki for my friend. We also each opted for the sake of the day, in this case a light, fruity variety from Hyogo prefecture. I live in Japan, so was excited to try Parisian takes on Japanese food. Oinari did not disappoint. In addition to the aforementioned sake, the miso and green onions were both delicious, the udon was chewy and flavorful while the soup was light and refreshing, and the castella had just the right amount of sweetness and a great texture. Eaten on a hot summer day, the whole lunch managed the difficult trick of being both filling and light, leaving me refreshed and ready for the rest of the afternoon. Highly...
Read moreMy recent experience at Oinari left me frustrated due to an unreasonable policy. Despite explaining that my friend’s 2-year-old nephew had already eaten and wouldn’t require a meal, and didn’t even occupy a seat, the restaurant insisted we pay for a full menu for him.
This meant paying 35 euros for an extra meal that wasn’t needed, adding unnecessary cost to our visit.
Additionally, we were told we couldn’t order two menus unless we ordered three, further limiting our options.
Moreover, when we sought clarification, we were bluntly told, ‘You have to pay for 3 menus even if he’s only 2 and has already eaten, that’s the rule,’ without further explanation or consideration.
This lack of flexibility and communication left a negative impression. The rigid policies and poor communication detracted from our overall experience. I hope Oinari reevaluates their policies to provide a more customer-friendly approach in...
