I have dined at Michelin star restaurants, from 1 all the way up to 3. As other reviewers have said, this restaurant is at that tier and was, in fact, better than the majority of the Michelin restaurants I’ve been to. Every single course in the tasting menu was delicious, presentation was immaculate and artistic, and both entrees were nothing short of sublime (the Iberian pork and Talbot fillet… WOW!!!). The service was impeccable, with great wine recommendations and the sort of service you’d expect at a Michelin restaurant. I will also note, I have been to restaurants where tasting menu service was glacial to the point I considered paying and leaving - this entire experience was timely and, in my opinion, perfect. It seemed that attention was paid to my pace and so I never waited long for the next course, but it was also never before I was ready for it. The staff was extremely polite and helpful and, despite being a pathetic monolingual American, I felt very comfortable and communication was easy.
I’ll also mention, I went to Japan just this year and the broth to the ravioli dish was nothing short of exquisite, on the level of the best broths I had while in Japan.
Overall, one of the best restaurants I have ever dined at and for the quality and quantity of food and wine I thought that the price was incredible, too: 143 euros for the tasting (95), 3 glasses of wine, and a digestif (for one person) IN. PARIS! Do yourself a favor...
Read moreI swear, France has the most amazing ice cream! If it is your first time in Paris, you MUST stop by Berthillon. Seriously.
I had heard great things about Berthillon through some locals and I also knew that Anthony Bourdain was a fan. Well, that sealed the deal for me! Since we were already visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral and shopping, it wasn't too hard to find this place. Especially since there was a bit of a line out front, which was to be expected. (Yup, there is even a line when it's still cold in France.)
It's a cute shop! I noticed there was seating inside but we just ended up taking our treats with us. I ordered a double scoop of the framboise (raspberry) sorbet and oh boy, it was just wonderful! Sweet, tart and COLD. Brr! I just love eating ice cream when it's freezing outside! Don't you? :D
So get in line, grab a cone and take a stroll along the Seine. You are, after all, in the...
Read moreNeither food, service , or atmosphere met the standard of a decent restaurant. Let’s talk about the food first since that is what makes a good restaurant.
The food was either poorly prepared or not fresh. The onion in the onion soup was burnt. The duck with foie gras was gamely and not fresh. Next the service.
It’s was so inattentive that I could have served myself better. We were made to wait 30 minutes without any food or even a bread basket when I had already made a reservation. They left the empty dishes on the table and never came back until we asked for the check from frustration. Finally the atmosphere.
It’s only the surface that’s nice. Upper floors brightly lighted and decoration simple and elegant. This was ruined by the restrooms downstairs that reeked of urine.
My suggestion is not to waste your time and possibly health eating at...
