L'Opéra — Restaurant in Pau

Small venue with excellent food, friendly and efficient customer service all at good value for money. They say the lunchtime menu changes everyday which is important as the choice is limited to two choices of starter, main and desert. Not unusual to have a limited choice for lunch but the upside is excellent food and leads one to opt for something different as indeed I did. The avocado and crayfish mousse starter was fabulous and so good I’d eaten it before taking a photo! Main was Sea Bream on a bed of leek and black rice all in a delightful sauce. For desert a very rich mascarpone and crunchy caramel topping ..yum. The only reason I have not given a 5 star rating is for the location which is on a busy thoroughfare so if you have chosen to dine outside conversation is quite challenging. We had a lovely meal in this restaurant. The service was very good; very friendly and without any delays. The menu is limited but no worse off for that, each course was delicious, especially the pea gazpacho which with langoustine in tempura was excellent, the atmosphere is relaxed with live pianist playing soft old favourites. Le préfet devrait faire un petit tour dans cette "brasserie" qui ne demande aucun pass sanitaire, ni dedans, ni en "terrasse" !!! Une brasserie qui veut se donner des genres de resto gastronomique ! Certes la présentation est soignée mais si le prix du menu est à moins de 20€, on reste sur notre faim, tant la quantité est ridicule ! Et un gastro n'emploierait pas une apprentie qui se débrouille seule mais cependant très aimable et très serviable, vu le peu d'aide qu'elle reçoit de sa responsable.... Une "responsable" irrespectueuse et impulsive qui n'accepte pas la critique d'une erreur de sa pauvre apprentie, qui est là pour apprendre et que l'on a certainement pas accablée !! Tout le monde peut faire une erreur mais si sa hiérarchie est incapable de la reconnaître, c'est franchement pas professionnel !! Quand au cadeau soit disant mendié, on ne l'a même pas réclamé mais si le patron était correct envers un client qui n'a pas commis d'erreur, il n'aurait pas facturé un surplus d'une erreur de leur part... Si vous avez vraiment faim, passez votre chemin, attente et amabilité des "boss" à revoir Apprentie qui assure malgré une petite erreur de compréhension.... Peu de temps après, nous sommes allées manger une crêpe au boulevard des Pyrénées, qui, eux, nous ont demandé d'entrée le pass en terrasse.... Bref, un resto qui ne reconnait pas ses torts et qui n'a pas de considération...
