La Croix d'Or — Restaurant in Provins

I have to give one star for this restaurant. First of all because of the food. Each course was tasteless in my opinion and I consider myself a "foodie". I ate a salmon carpacio and I must say it was awful. It came with a boiled egg and some salad which had only oil and ground salt. Then I had a beef Angus steak with some veggies and other interesting stuff that tasted like water and salt. The beef was tough even though I had it medium rare. The foie grais on top was absolutely horrible. No taste at all.

Desert was a macaron that was like a chewing gum and a chocolate cream that was ok. Overall the worst experience I had in a so called gourmet restaurant. Not to forget, one meniu costs 35 euros. I would be happy to pay this amount for good stuff but...

What a wonderful meal we had at this charming and typically French restaurant. The lunch set menu was varied and excellent value for money. The food was absolutely delicious and they catered really well for our children as well who enjoyed trying new things such as smoked salmon but were also at home with chicken goujons and frites. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely and the staff were so friendly, they were very helpful and patient as I did my best to translate the menu into English. Une honte ! Le rapport qualité prix est déplorable. 5 à table, nous avons tous pris le menu à 42€, en payant des suppléments pour l'entrée et le plat.

Les accompagnements pour chaque plat étaient les mêmes (ratatouille et petits légumes), ce qui est étonnant pour les mariages entre les saveurs ; notons d'ailleurs les crudités avec le foie gras ??? La lotte (trop cuite) annoncée avec une fondue de poireaux se retrouve couchée sur une cuillère à soupe d'effiloché de poireaux, et non pas fondue, et toujours avec de la ratatouille à côté...

Les goûts étaient satisfaisants, rien à redire pour le foie gras, mais l'équilibre entre chaque aliment des plats principaux n'était pas du tout respecté, c'était... Brut. Les desserts, cependant, étaient excellents et très fins, un régal !

Et le service était digne d'un fast food, on nous bouscule physiquement... Imaginez-vous en train de discuter entre deux services et de voir passer un bras devant votre visage subitement ! Du pain (baguette moulée qualité Leclerc ?!) est d'un coup JETÉ sur la table !

Certes, les serveurs sont gentils et aimables, mais certainement pas adaptés à un restaurant qui cherche un certain standing.

Rien à voir donc avec la Croix d'Or d'il y a environ 10 ans, qui était au top.

Un prix divisé par 2 serait plus adapté à...
