This restaurant appeals to many tourists as it has a prime spot in the centre of Rennes and offers a traditional brasserie menu. As with these types of large establishments the experience is a combination of average quality, expensive pricing and service that is functional.
We ordered starters and after we finished the first course, the waiter clearing our table accidentally dropped the plates on our table. One large plate shattered with fragments of the crockery being dispersed and the oil based sauce from the food landing substantially on my wife’s clothing, her face and hair. The plate that shattered clearly was a dangerous hazard for us and our daughter as fragments of the crockery could have landed in our eyes. I have been to many restaurants in my lifetime and never has glass or crockery shattered into pieces at a table due to a waiter or waitress. The table was an absolute mess.
I asked for the manager and at least 2 other staff appeared who helped to clear up the damage alongside the waiter. However, they did not replace all our drinking glasses or the tablecloth. One of our wine glasses had food in it. I expected the manager to offer a replacement for our wine but nothing was forthcoming. The manager went on to tell a story that he once had an accident where plates were dropped; as if this was a mitigation for the incident. I said plates are dropped in restaurants everyday around the world; that does mean there are no consequences for the restaurant.
The manager offered only one solution; to submit a receipt for the dry-cleaning costs of the clothing and the restaurant would then pay us back. No recognition that our meal had been dangerous, ruined and my wife had to return to our hotel to change. The clothing was actually not dry-cleanable. On returning to the UK after many emails there has been no response from the restaurant about any recompense.
Clearly the management ignores any issues that are related to tourists on the basis that they are a one visit customer. I would recommend many other restaurants in the great...
Read moreIf I could have put zero star I would have. Except one waitress who is nice to us, the rest of the crew was horrible. First between the appetizer and the main course we had to wait 40 min : but the worst is when the waiter brought us the plate, he knew we waited long, but not even one sorry or even a smile or even a “bonne appétit” he just walked away... that was just so rude! So we took the meal €30 but after this scene we wanted just to pay and leave without taking the dessert included in the meal: but no flexibility at all even thought it is just cancel the order and the plate that we ate... come one.. this is absurd. Whatever... to sum up : avoid folks, this is a bad place to enjoy Rennes! And even when we paid I stayed polite saying thank you : but they just walk away...
Read moreLoved brasserie de la paix, went for a date night, the staff was amazing and the food was even better. We got oysters and escargot to start, which surprised the waiter but it ended up being perfect. Oysters were massive and pretty good, haven't had a lot of french oysters to compare to, had some better in NYC but they were half the size at most. The escargot was absolutely amazing, wish we got 12 and no oysters. I got the lamb shank with mashed potatoes and feta, my girlfriend got a filet, both were great, finished basically all of it with no room for dessert. Also loved their Hugo spritzes, they pour well and they...
