Hôtel La Roque Gageac - L'Auberge des Platanes — Restaurant in Sarlat-la-Canéda

First impressions as we arrived were great. Beautiful location right by the river. A lovely shaded garden bar.. terraced dining. Reception wasn't manned and we were asked to go down to the bar to check in. We waited while the receptionist double tasked serving bar and checking people in. He then took us back up to reception for our key and showed us our room. |Our room was adequate. Air conditioned. The TV was tiny and we struggled to see it in any detail. The bathroom was ok.. clean except for mould and mildew around the shower screen.|We went down to the garden bar for a cooling beer .. Sat at a table but we're asked to move as it was a table for 4 and there were 2 of us (they weren't at all busy at that time), then waited to be served. And waited.. went to the bar but we're told someone would come over. They never did. So we voted with our feet and left. |It was such a shame as I think with a bit of updating abd training in customer service this could be a...

Situated right on the Dordogne and nestled amongst the yellow stone houses set into the cliff the location doesn't get much better than this! We booked a delux double room which was situated 200 meters up the road in a separate block, the room itself was spotless but we were disappointed with the size and lack of simple things like plug sockets to recharge our now flattened camera batteries, there was one socket in the bedroom tucked up beside the bed. Only one bedside table too! But the room did have a stonking great big wardrobe which would be of little use for one night stays! No shelving in the bathroom so nowhere to even put your toothbrush! I may be being a little picky here as it was perfectly adequate just seemed to lack the finishing details. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was very good and the house wine was certainly drinkable. Would we come back? Don't...
