Le Chesery — Restaurant in Thonon-les-Bains

We had the experience of getting to know the restaurant at 7 p.m. on a Friday day. It was completely full and there were only 3 waiters for more than 30 tables. That meant we had a bad recommendation because no fondue was available for 2 people. We accepted the suggestion because the man who attended us told us that "it is basically the same as it was." First came 2 huge plates of melted cheese and in the next minutes another 2 dishes with a variety of salami and ham. We could not eat half of each dish, because it was an excessive amount for that schedule. In the end we asked to take what we could not buy and the same man tells us "it is impossible for us to give food to go, because the health authority does not allow us this." At the same time, he raised the dishes without asking us and we were forced to resign ourselves to the fact that the food goes to waste and that we must pay for the waste. We made a reservation for 12 people: 8 children, 4 adults. Hence, they told us 2 tables were arranged of 4 and 8 people. when we arrived, they reserved two tables of 6 people each so they had space for an extra table for other guests. When we confronted the waiter with this issue, he told us that it did not make a difference. We said it did, since two children would be sitting with the adults. The waiter got aggressive when we asked if it would be possible to change the tables to what we had reserved. After this, everything escalated and the waiter told us that he would not serve us anymore. This was a big problem, since it is difficult to find a table for 12 persons in the evening in Chatel. The waiter started calling us crazy people and he forced us to leave immediately. Reading other reviews, this is a common issue for this place, even-though the food seems to be good. Made reservations…. However on arrival we got seated. 5 minutes later we were asked to leave as they had no name or reservation????? Not only they made the mistake…. They made us out for liars. That kinda closed it for us. I can understand it can be overwhelmingly busy…. But come on…. Don’t trow your reservations out.

Clearly, I wouldn’t recommend it on a busy day. We’ve been here many times in the past when it was less busy. I couldn’t just let this one slide. Somebody made a mistake and it was not the customer.

At the end we hade a great meal at hotel macchi. Paid a little more but we were welcomed from The beginning.
