Sormoni: A Feast for the Senses
I recently had the delight of dining at Sormoni, a charming Georgian restaurant in Tbilisi. The warm and inviting atmosphere created the perfect space for a memorable meal. As someone seeking a taste of authentic Georgian cuisine, I wasn't disappointed.
A Refreshing Start:
Georgian Salad Symphony: My gastronomic journey began with a symphony of flavors - the Georgian salad. Chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and fresh herbs came together in a refreshingly light and flavorful dish, offering a perfect contrast to the richer dishes to come. A Delicious Adventure:
Veal Delight: Next, I embarked on a classic adventure – veal stewed with vegetables in a rich tomato sauce. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the fresh vegetables provided a delightful counterpoint to the savory sauce. Khachapuri Dream: This cheesy bread, a Georgian staple, was an absolute dream at Sormoni. The flaky dough, bursting with melted cheese, was pure indulgence. Maxican Potato Mystery: The name of this dish piqued my curiosity, but it wasn't entirely clear what it was. Perhaps the menu could benefit from a brief description for this dish. Service Excellence:
The service at Sormoni was exceptional. The staff was attentive and friendly, always there to answer questions and ensure a smooth dining experience. They truly added another layer of warmth and hospitality to the already wonderful atmosphere.
Highly Recommend:
Sormoni offers a flawless dining experience. From the delicious and authentic food to the impeccable service and cozy ambiance, everything was top-notch. I highly recommend Sormoni! It's a hidden gem that I can't wait to return to and explore more dishes...
Read moreUpdate after 5 years: I visited this place again after 5 years two times in 2 months. First time after five years I visited 2 months ago and ordered cheese pkhlovana, Asian salad and tashmijabi. Ngl, I loved everything. Meat was cooked incredibly, pkhlovana was very tasty too and Asian salad was hit of the evening. Me and my friend were in love. Next time I visited few days ago and felt a bit disappointed. Potatoes were too salty and salad had 0 salt 🤣 meat in pomegranate juice was tasty, meat as always was cooked perfectly. That’s the thing this restaurant will always be the best. Meat was melting. Sauce was a bit oily, but still complimented meat perfectly. But dessert… eh… it was a huge disappointment. I waited for a very long time for this pumpkin dessert, it was underbaked and lacked sugar. I liked taste of pumpkin, but texture was very non pleasant and ice cream couldn’t neutralize unsweetenness. It would be great to bake a little longer and add more sugar. I think, this dessert is baked in that moment, when it’s ordered and that’s why it wasn’t good at all. But it’s not an excuse. Next time, I hope you’ll have good dessert.
Usually in Georgia, good places lose their quality time by time. This restaurant is something different! I visited it again yesterday and quality of food and friendliness and helpfulness of stuff was even better! I had mushrooms and local juice this time, and it was very tasty and fresh. Beautiful restaurant with cute garden, that makes you forget that you are in crowded city and takes you in small village of Imereti. Food is outstanding and it's obvious that high quality ingredients are used. Personal is friendly and...
Read moreTucked away from the hustle and bustles of the old town, Sormoni is a true gem of a restaurant. It was my last lunch in Tbilisi, and I’m glad that I came here.
I had the Pkhali platter, lobio bean stew with pickles and corn bread, and a glass of sweet Georgian natural red wine. Coincidentally everything is vegan, nonetheless tremendously delicious and satisfying.
Paired with pickles and grilled corn bread, the Lobio bean stew is the ultimate comforting food. Every flavour and texture were in perfect harmony. The Georgian pickles were not too sour or salty, which is rare in my dinning experience in Tbilisi. The corn bread is charred on the outside, while moist and tender on the inside. One of the best I’ve had. The bean stew itself is heavenly: velvety, savoury, spiced just right, and brightened up by chopped cilantros and the pickles. A bliss point dish for sure. I need to learn how to make it at home!
The Pkhali platter serves three types of traditional Georgian cold appetizers: spinach balls with walnut, eggplant rolls with walnut sauce, puréed pumpkin carrot scoops. Garnished with cornbread crisps, pomegranate, and microgreens. The spinach walnut balls are my favorite among the three. The egggplant roll has a spicy kick to it and a bit too salty. The pumpkin purées are a bit vinegary.
Service is in English, friendly, and attentive. The dinning setting is in a lush courtyard, with plenty of shades and ambiance music playing in the background. A perfect spot to relax on a...
