Tang — Restaurant in Tbilisi

Had big expectations to taste finally first good asian kitchen in the city, but.. Generally, you can see that owners of the place are still the only people in Tbilisi who ate real Chinese food, have a good taste in interior design and plating, but 80% of food was very average. Absolutely not seasoned wood mushrooms, overcooked duck, plain smashed cucumbers, burned (not fried) rice with egg and too glutinous bao (it should be puffy and a bit sticky, but not like that). Finally made it to Tangs today. Nice ambience. Interesting menu but portion sizes relatively small and pricey for what is given. Tried sweet and sour prawn, caramelized chilli pork belly and duck with pancakes. Unfortunately, all three dishes were not served together and the duck came late and by that time we had finished the other dishes. Pork and duck dishes were good but prawn dish was not that great. Tasty food but pricey for the portion size offered. Siang Gan is definitely much better value for money and better menu if you want anything close to authentic...

It's a cute place with very sweet staff who are very helpful and considerate. Usually there is not a big crowd and it's easy to get a spot without reservation. I loved the veggie pineapple curry, very unusual dish I must say, but with a memorable taste. Not so many veg options as I'd like and was disappointed the two times I was here of how salty the aubergine baos were, almost unedible. After bringing up this issue we were told that it is supposed to be like this, but it just doesn't work for me. Otherwise very nice place to try...
