Kaktus - Spezialitätenkaffee — Restaurant in Böblingen

I have been an occasional visitor to this café for about three years as a local resident, and until now I have never once been disappointed with either the service of the staff or the quality of the coffee. Sadly, however, today I was very disappointed with one staff member’s level of English.

After ordering my coffee, I needed some tissues, so I asked one of the staff in English. Unfortunately, he did not understand the word “tissue.” What bothered me most was that instead of politely asking me to repeat (for example, by saying “Pardon?”), he simply tried to mimic my pronunciation. Only after I repeated “tissue” three or four times did another female staff member finally bring me some.

I am not sure whether it was because it was near closing time and he felt bothered, or simply because I did not use German. In any case, this café has always been a very special place of relaxation for my husband and me, and I have often recommended it to other neighbors. Now, however, I am not so sure.

First of all let me tell you that I am not a huge coffee drinker. It is usually too bitter for me and I need to add what it feels like 2 cups of sugar to enjoy it - thankfully this was not the case at Kaktus. I have ordered the Iced Latte with oatmilk and it tasted absolutely delicious. You can taste the quality!

They also offer a nice selection of sweet and savory pasties that look absolutely tasty and are all homemade. My friend had the banana bread and the owner suggested to grill it, which I have never heard of but tasted and smelled absolutely to die for.

The location is super convenient with many parking options around. The interior of this cafe which opened its doors in November 2020, is light and airy, minimalistic with a touch industrial. Something you would expect in a big urban city such as Berlin or Hamburg, not necessary in Swabian Böblingen 😉

Service and customer care was not acceptable at all. The staff weren't welcoming and we didn't have a feeling of a customer/guest.

As there is no reply function, I had to edit this review. We had a birthday party, and as we were 9 people, we needed to gather in one spot. However, you didn't allow us to move desks, and to be honest in not a professional statement. Furthermore, when the final person who was supposed to be surprised arrived, and wanted to order a coffee (as the birthday cake surprise was planned for a little bit later), you asked him on his order are you the one who has birthday today?!!!! It completely ruined our planning.

I gave 2 starts only for cleanliness and the taste of coffee. Otherwise, 1...
