La Fantasia – A Place Where Lightness Is Taken Seriously It begins with the name. La Fantasia — light, playful, almost dreamlike. A place where one might lose oneself, perhaps even fall in love. It evokes holidays, sunlight on the skin, the hush of a slow afternoon. And indeed: stepping into this restaurant in Bad Homburg, one senses immediately that the name is not just a promise, but a principle.
Here, fantasy is not décor, not escapism. It is considered, cultivated, tangible — a quiet form of sincerity. It flows into the smallest details and becomes something present, attentive, and deeply felt. this space echos, is not exclusive, not elitist. It opens itself to anyone willing to arrive. It’s a place where people meet — sometimes without seeking, and yet find something: a sense of welcome, warmth, and gentle attention.
There is a joyful kind of hospitality here. The space doesn’t separate — it connects. This is a place where closeness becomes possible. The phrase Mediterranean cuisine has become almost a cliché — overused, watered down. But here, at La Fantasia, it regains its meaning. Not as a concept, but as a way of being: ingredients that speak of origin, dishes that don’t try to impress but instead touch.
And then there is this time of year — a season seemingly made for what La Fantasia does best: asparagus season. White asparagus, finely sliced, tender and cool — paired with Buffalo mozzarella to form a starter that is more than a beginning. It’s a moment where everything melts: on the tongue, in the soul, in the day.
Like a love poem, it dissolves quietly within — not lost, but held. In this dish, one can truly surrender: to flavor, to presence, to memory.
And when everyday life resumes, you don’t return emptier, but fuller — gifted with time, with a taste that lingers, with a flavor that becomes part of you.
A place where fantasy doesn’t float away — it stays close. And...
Read moreYour visit, Gentle Reader, will depend on what you order. The ambiance is great. The choices on the menu are great. The very limited wines on offer are great. (try the Primitivo di Manduria. at €21.00, amazing wine, at a bargain price).
So why just two stars? Well it's because of the salt.
The mushroom soup was overwhelmed by salt. I was silly, I should have sent it back.
Then came the fillet steak cooked in a Primitivo Wine Reduction. The steak was soooo tender. BUT someone with a heavy hand had added too much salt again and ruined the dish. My dinner guest had the most tender Nodino of Veal she had ever tasted. It was melt-in-the-mouth. But again, she had to scrape off the crust of salt spread all over the chop. Our other guest had exactly the same issue with her main course. It was therefore quite surprising when the owner asked us our opinion of the dinner and we simply suggested he cut down on the salt in these items. His amazing response was: We don't use salt in our kitchen.
So I sit here, gentle reader, with the following advice:
This is a good restaurant. The service can be painfully slow. But if you are served up a dish that is overwhelmed by salt -...
Read moreI have called the restaurant 1hour before closing and I was told the restaurant closes at 2:30 and the kitchen closes af 02:00 so I needed to arrive before it. I arrived at 01:50 and was being received by the personal and then the super impolite, unfriendly and rude boss interrupted and said I couldn’t get in. So doesn’t really matter if the food is good, you have a zero friendly person by the door I’m never coming back and I’m never making business lunch reservations there either. For the restaurant: next time please give the right information at the phone so someone doesn’t take the trouble to go to you. Or close the doors. Or get someone more polite to talk to your clients. For me,...
