Our party of six had a lovely time at Cafe Jacques. I called ahead the day before (everyone speaks English) and was able to reserve an outside table, which was great so we could observe the neighborhood as well. The server/host explained that the menu, in German, was inside on the wall, and while there was no wine/drink menu, she could recommend pairings for us based on our selections, or we could ask for anything and she could probably deliver it (which she did!). One would think it could be costly, but everything was quite reasonably priced. The food was superb. Highly recommend the steak, and my husband got a chicken dish that he loved. The service was excellent; the host had a bit of a dry sense of humor.

Although the food is pretty good it is overshadowed by bad service. Service so bad that it stands out even by Berlin standards. The problem is not with the service people, which were nothing but professional. But from the ''Boss'' himself. His repulsive behavior which I could only imagine as coming from a personal entitlement and a firm belief that the clients are nothing but dumb wallets that should just stop interrupting him and just follow his arrogant lead blindly. If you are looking to eat above average food that will be shadowed by repulsive behavior look no further than Café Jacques!

We had a birthday reservation for 15 people, and they called and confirmed the number on that same day. We arrived only to find there are only 12 chairs laid out on 4 small tables barely fitting. When asking the staff for more tables, they would reply that when the full party is complete they can increase the number of chairs/tables (to which they didn’t). We squeezed 15 people by adding random chairs from nearby tables.

The owner was the worst part of the night, as disrespectful and rude as he was, he was bluntly pushing the narrative that big tables who only order food and not drinks do not make a profit and thus they won’t add any chairs/tables for us.

To top it all off, he charged us with an extra dish that nobody ordered, simply because they required each person to go to the bar and pay for their order there separately. Not really sure why it was so hard for them to place the whole bill on the table, since anyway they...

We were recommended this by Lonely Planet and weren't let down. We are a couple and 30 and wanted a rep magic meal with great wine and food. It was very atmospheric, with candle lit tables and a nice buzz. The wine can be chosen from a shelf and choices of Italian, Spanish and French mainly. The menu changes daily which is great as everything is in season and written on a black board each day. This IS all in German naturally and we tried to google translate until an English speaking waitress came to help us! I ordered the fish platter which had red snapper, x3 other fillets and a langoustine. All very tasty and fresh. My partner had the meat platter which was amazing! Lamb and beef with different cuts which tasted amazing. The lamb was the best. Wine we chose was lovely too. I definitely...

Came here while the place was half empty.

2 different waitresses walk past us at the entrance. Then a waiter comes to talk to us, seemed nice initially, then he asked for our names, we politely said we have no reservation (otherwise he doesnt need to know our names).

Insisted, we told him our names, after he heard mine (which is an arabic name), he expressed that it's a odd name (it is a common name btw), he then walked away from us and went to talk to the customer standing behind us and just ignored our existence.

Is this actually happening in Berlin?what kind of establishment is this?

Didnt wait a second longer and left.

What a disgrace. There are multiple french restaurants in the area, where you dont get treated like crap and the food is good,...
