FunkyFisch — Restaurant in Berlin

We arrived at FunkyFisch expecting an amazing experience - Many reviews said the fish was good. We arrived, and were shown our seats, and then checked up on every 30 seconds before ordering. Once ordering, the fish arrived on time, but was just under hot with our sides. The waitress decided to take away our side plates, despite having not finished. Promptly, she asked if we wanted to pay and it became clear we were being ushered to make the table free - Maybe because we only ordered a main and a glass of wine?

Once paying, the card reader said the payment had not gone through, and I asked to pay again but the waitress insisted it had and refused to take cash instead. After the generally negative experience, we decided not to return to FunkyFisch.

One day later, I received a text message (On a Sunday) from FunkyFisch asking for payment and my card details via SMS. Wanting to avoid a scam - I asked to make have a call. I was told I can call back in 2 days when they return (on Tuesday) myself...I then transferred FunkyFisch the money for the meal.

Went to visit my wife's brother and sister in law for the weekend and they said it was a must that we visit FunkyFish, they were not wrong! From start to finish it was a fantastic experience. The staff were all fantastic; especially our waiters Steve and Tomislav. They were extremely polite, helpful and knowledgeable about the food and drinks menu. I had a view from our table to the bar and you could see the all of the staff working hard together whilst having fun! All the staff had smiles on their faces and I'm sure the chefs did too when they saw all our plates and the table next to us coming back clean! The menu had plenty of choice and the dishes were packed with flavour! I could have eaten the Spicy Shrimp Popcorn for starters, main and dessert. The oysters were very fresh, as if they'd just be plucked from the sea 5 minutes before we arrived. We ended the dinner with a couple of rounds of complimentary shots with our waiters. We came here as a recommendation of friends and the brand of Duc.

We had to reserve a table a week in advance. The first glance - Mostly German people in their 40-60s. Nice service with a Wardrobe, and selection of wine.

The food was creative but taste wise we’ve had much better food experiences. The portions are tapas size and it’s definitely overpriced. Yes some might argue the service and experience, but it was not worth the taste.

We liked the poke. It was really well done and the fish quality was outstanding. Besides that we’ve tried the octopus, the shrimp popcorn which was a bit spicy. The fish and chips were absolutely disappointing and way to oily. We thought at least the sauces my save it but it didn’t. The only thing that we truly found outstanding was the asparagus and poke.

If you are familiar with Asian food and you are a foodie, who mostly cares about the taste. This might not be the right spot for you.
