THE STORY OF BERLIN — Attraction in Berlin

Honestly one of the most disappointing museums I have been to and have no idea how it is rated so high. Possibly because foreign tourists are easily impressed by anything in Europe?

The museum and collection is SMALL - let's get that out of the way. It reminded me of a city museum you would find in a small village or town in Poland, not a major city.

Almost everything is re-creation, and not original items.

Also, you get wall-to-wall blocks of text everywhere you go. If I wanted to read giant blocks of text about Berlin, I would just go on wikipedia or read a book. A museum is about EXPERIENCING the city.

The stuff about the cold war can be easily and better seen by just going outside and visiting checkpoint charlie and the remains of The Wall.

The only interesting part was the clothing and rooms from communist times, and even these were limited to about 1-2 rooms.

Not worth the money - you are better off going to the Pergemon or just walking...

Really informative. Museum tour tells a great story of the city of Berlin and makes you appreciate its rich history even more. Entire setting is so realistic it's hard not to get carried away. There's a semi-hidden entrance to the cinema, playing an authentic clip from that time. Other small holes in the walls may give you a full view of an otherwise inaccessible room which got frozen in time. Important: If you start, or end, your museum tour at a particular time, you will be allowed to join in the underground bunker tour. Check the times at the ticket booth, or ask the staff....

Wunderschönes, interessantes und interaktives Museum. Bin nun schon das zweite mal dort gewesen und habe es auch dieses keine Sekunde lang bereut. Man bekommt einen soliden geschichtlichen Überblick über 800 Jahre Berlin. Dabei sind wichtige zeitliche Abschnitte (z.B. Industrialisierung der Stadt) in einzelne Räume unterteilt, die der Zeit entsprechend gestaltet sind. Besonders gut an dem Museum gefällt mir und meiner Freundin die Tatsache, dass man dem Besucher die Informationen stets in komprimierter schriftlicher Form vermittelt. Wir alle kennen Museen die zum Großteil aus labgweiligen Texttafeln mit Jahesangaben bestehen. Sowas kann einen schnell ermüden und aus dem Gebäude scheuchen. Das ist aber hier alles andere als der Fall. Viel mehr wird hier dem Besucher das Gefühl der jeweiligen Epoche durch die Ausstellungsstücke, der Raumgestaltung und vor allem durch die Soundkulisse (wirklich sehr eindrucksvoll) vermittelt. So stimmt sich zum Beispiel schnell ein beklemmendes Gefühl ein wenn man über "brennende" Bücher schreitet und im Hintergrund Schreie von Nationalsozialisten hört. Auch regt einen das Erlebte nach dem Besuch zum Nachdenken an. So war es bei mir der Fall, dass ein Zitat (Foto habe ich der Rezension beigefügt) fest in meinen kopf hängen geblieben ist und ich über dies noch eine ganze Weile nachdachte.

Mein Fazit ist daher eindeutig. Ein Besuch hier ist Pflicht für jeden der auch nur ein wenig mehr über Berlin und seine Geschichte lernen möchte.

Ach und dann gibt es natürlich auch noch eine Führung in einem Atomschutzbunker noch oben drauf. Diesen haben wir aber ausgelassen , da wir leider die letzte Führung verpasst haben. Das macht aber überhaupt nichts aus, denn so haben wir einen Grund ein weiteres Mal hierher...
