I travel all over the world for business and usually stay in large, swanky hotel chains. So I looked in Google Maps for hotels surrounding the venue I had to go to and found Pension Peters. It is quite different from the usual hotel chains. It isn’t a luxury place with tons of fancy art work on the wall, endless corridors of rooms with fancy key card readers, but…. The place is charming, cozy and my room was huge. I’m used to staying in tiny rooms that would barely allow me to turn around, but not here. The building is old, from 1898, so the rooms have these large, decorated stucco ceilings that were typical for Victorian times. The windows are huge and allow for a lot of light. While decor and bathroom are sparse, they are clean and welcoming. The doors, which are large and heavy, still have decorative hardware and need to be opened with an actual key.
Arriving was also super personalized. Because they don’t have hundreds of rooms, I was one of two guests who hadn’t arrived yet, so the manager, Sven greeted me warmly with “you can only be Ms. Honacker or the other name.” Breakfast is a must! It’s all organic, healthy foods and the selection is rather large. One can choose from Gluten Free items as well. The location is spectacular! In the middle of Charlottenburg, it’s quite literally in the heart of Berlin. Surrounded by tons of little restaurants, cafes, parks and shops means that you don’t have to drive or even use public transportation to get anywhere. In conclusion, I would stay here any day over the fancy large chains. The fact that this is a family run business is apparent in all of it. Would definitely, definitely recommend them. One thing that might be important to mention, it appears there is no AC. So not sure if or how the rooms would be cooled during the high temperatures in summer. I wasn’t in need of AC, because the temperatures were nice and I opened...
Read morePENSION PETERS – BERLIN||This week I stayed in this hotel during my trip to Berlin. ||||The location is relatively far from the city centre, but considering the excellent Berlin transportation system, you can reach it by subway and S – Bahn in 20 – 25 min, otherwise a couple of meters from the hotel you can take the S – Bahn to Potsdam, it takes only 15 min approx.||||Nearby the hotel is plenty of coffee houses and restaurants of different type, Italian, Spanish tapas, Vietnamese and others and there are also shoppings. ||||The pension is an old building with wooden floors and high ceilings, regarding the room, it was clean, the furniture is basic and the TV is a small PC monitor, you must take into account, that some rooms have a private bathroom, but not in the room, the bathroom is outside in the hall, so if you get one of this rooms, you will be forced to leave you room, every time you need to go to the bathroom, that was my case, in spite of that in the reservation I made, there was not mention at all, about the bathroom outside the room. ||||There is no elevator in this hotel, so if you get a room in the 3th or the 4th floor, you will have to take your luggage by the stair. Breakfast was good, but not very varied. ||||At the reception the man and the lady I talked to were polite and helpful, but the reception works only until 18.00, after that time, you get a key to access the hotel. ||||I would not come back to this hotel, because I prefer a more comfortable option, but if you are looking for a budget place, clean and with good connection regarding the subway and the S-bahn, this is choice to...
Read moreThe property certainly has all the quirks of a pension set in an old Berlin residential building: a grand marble entrance, a gloomy staircase (no lift) and hallways, and rooms with high ceilings, creaky wooden floors and spartan furnishings. With the right mindset, it could all feel charming, but certainly does not live up to the image of homeliness conjured by the property's website: the cosy looking courtyard, for example, is in fact the backyard of four nearby restaurants.||||You should be aware that the reception opens at 7:30 and closes at 18:00 (though this is indicated nowhere on their website or in the rooms). We found this out the hard way, as I had requested our down pillows to be switched for synthetic ones, but this had been forgotten. By the time we got back to our room in the evening and found out, there was nowhere to call for this to be rectified. The hotel did however graciously offer a discount to compensate.||||Checkout was also a challenge, as by the time reception would have opened we needed to be at Tegel already.||||With a night porter and some decorative touches, this could a worthwhile option for someone looking for old Berlin charm - if the price was right. And there's the problem: for the price of an ensuite room at Pension Peters, you can get one in a major chain 4-star hotel in the same area, and I would recommend you do: for the same price, the charm of Pension Peters just isn't enough to compensate for the lack of...
