Hutzelmann — Restaurant in Berlin

Normally I research bakeries that I want to try. This time however I stumbled upon this bakery because I was already in the Charlottenburg area on a quest to try a bee sting cake at the fish market nearby.

Since I hadn't researched the bakery,I asked somebody in the line outside what the best thing to try was. They recommended the poppy seed cake.

I found out after I came home and was browsing through the book classic German baking written by Luisa Weiss that this bakery was actually one of her favorites!

Not a lot of English speaking staff which is totally fine. I was able to point to what I wanted to eat. The poppy seed cake was just insane! I have never eaten anything like it!! Incredibly nutty and flavorful. If you're looking for a classic German bake this...

The food is fine. If it is from yesterday most of the time they will tell you. Coffe is fine too nothing special but goes well with the other stuff they have. The main issue for me is you always have this period cheating on change issue. You give them money they do not give you the change back claiming you gave them the exact amount. It does not really always happen but it is freqvent enough that it is a problem especially if you give a 50 and expect change. Wahr dort schon einpaar mal, inzwischen gehe ich dort nicht mehr hin. Habe dort einmal Ende der Woche ein Windbeutel gekauft den ich am Anfang der Woche gesehen habe, sah lecker aus. Leider hat man geschmeckt und dann im Nachhinein gesehen/verstanden, dass es noch die selben Windbeutel von Anfang der Woche waren und keine neuen. Der Kuchen schmeckt eigentlich lecker, aber zweifle daran wie oft manches ausgetauscht wird, wenn man sieht wie identisch sie zu anderen vorherigen Tagen aussehen. Ich finde es okay etwas vom Vortag zu verkaufen, aber teilweise etwas zu verkaufen was schon mehrere Tage dort liegt und dann auch noch für einen relativ teuren Preis, finde ich dreißt. Zudem gibt es dort eine etwas größere ältere Verkäuferin, die sehr grob ist, hinterlässt keinen guten Eindruck. Ich will mit meinem Kommentar nicht zu sehr abschrecken, aber falls ihr euch dort etwas bestellt, achtet aufjedenfall auf die Bedienung und auch auf welche Art von Gebäck ihr euch kauft (besonders die mit Sahne!) oder zumindest das ihr es am Anfang der Woche kauft.
