Kane Mam — Restaurant in Berlin

We were excited to try this restaurant with its unusual menu but were disappointed. First, the English version of the menu completely omits salads and soups which are only on the German menu. We were waited on by a young man who we assume was the owner's son because it seems as though he really did not want to be there. Wasn't warm or helpful and did not really seem to know the menu whereas the owner and her daughter(s) seemed to be much nicer. We ordered the dish of bread with tomato, pesto and feta but they were out of it which is strange. Ordered olives for the table which states "three kinds of olives" but it had only one green olive and many black olives (2 types) and pepperoncini, covered with fresh onions. We ordered triangles of dough that were supposed to have 3 different fillings for an appetizer but they were all the same. The fish, gyros, and moussaka were all fine. I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Kane Mam, and I can confidently say it was one of the most amazing dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. Every member of the staff made us feel like honored guests.

The food was outstanding, but what truly stole the show was the dessert: the Galaktoboureko. I’ve had this traditional Greek dessert before, but never like this. The pastry was perfectly crisp on the outside, with a creamy custard inside that was both rich and light, and the syrup had just the right touch of sweetness. We were deeply disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We brought a birthday cake to celebrate a special occasion, but instead of a warm reception, we felt insulted. A staff member even left our table shouting about our cake in slang. This not only ruined the surprise but also dampened the overall mood.

It appears the restaurant is under significant pressure to maintain its high rating, which may explain the discrepancy between the high score and the average food quality we experienced. We recommend the staff take a deep breath and learn how to treat customers with respect. If customer feedback is so important to you, it’s crucial to behave accordingly.
