My First Love Coffee — Restaurant in Berlin

Was looking forward to visiting… so I was happy when I saw it was finally open and so close to my house.

First of all the coffee is great. That’s why I’m giving this a 3.

I would give it a 2 as far as my personal experience with the food. It was simply not good. The sign outside advertises vegan… so in I went.

I paid 13 euros for a ‚veganized’ green shakshuka. The normal one with feta and 2 eggs is the exact same price. I guess mine came with the addition of mixed seeds? For some reason. But ok. No problem. I was hungry…

Saddens me to say, the shakshuka was terrible. It lacked spices and salt. It didn’t taste even a little bit good. I would have eaten it if it was even just ok… But it was inedible. My boyfriend also agreed.

I told the waitress (whom had earlier brought me toast with parmasean on it. She corrected this herself). The server was nice enough to offer me something else. She suggested a few things but also suggested me a haloumi bagel.. wich I had to explain that vegan means no egg, no cheese, no milk..

I put in an order but my boyfriend told me he was struggling to finish his food as well, and it just wasn’t good. And that it’s just not worth it to eat there and be disappointed again.

When I went inside to say that actually I didn’t want to east anything else. The cashier asked if I wanted a refund and I said yes please. And he replies that he gave me exactly what I ordered… I was taken aback by the rude comment and told him that it doesn’t mean that the food is good. Which he then replied there’s nothing wrong with the menu, and it just tastes bad to me…

This exchange between myself and the cashier is exactly y I’m writing this review. For 33 euros for 2 people at a cafe on a casual Tuesday morning. I expect a bit more. And If a customer tells you that the food is not tasting right, that information should be passed to the kitchen so they can work on it. Not disputed against. Pretty much telling me it’s just me and not the food.

I went there hungry and was dissatisfied with the food, that I had to go somewhere else. And the interaction I had with the cashier was not exactly how I wanted to start my day. He did refund me my 13€ though.

I’m sure there are other things on the menu that taste great, but we did not experience them. It was also a nice attempt to veganize something from the menu for me, but unfortunately it just didn’t turn out well.

I hope they can review the menu for their vegan costumers in the future. Just because we don’t eat animal byproducts, doesn’t mean we don’t have tastebuds.

But until then.. there’s a pretty great selection of breakfast and brunch places in the area, where 33€ would be...

Ein interessantes Café. Sonntag 10.30 Von den vielleicht 40 Plätzen innen und außen nur 4 besetzt. Junge Frau hinter der Theke zwar freundlich, liebt aber anscheinend Erziehungsspiele. Ich habe einen Kaffee bestellt, mich hingesetzt und die Karte studiert. Sie bringt den Kaffee (Laden ist Selbstbedienung) und als ich das Essen bestellen will, sagt sie, dass ich zu Theke kommen muss. Ich also die drei Meter zur Theke. Dort angekommen sage ich noch einmal, was ich haben möchte, worauf sie an eine andere Stelle an der Theke zeigte und sagte, ich dürfe nur von hier bestellen. Ok, wenn sie darauf steht. Meinetwegen. Ich habe noch einen zweiten Kaffee bestellt und bezahlt. Mittlerweile waren nur noch zwei Leute im Raum und niemand stand an. Plötzlich höre ich sie mehrfach rufen, dass ich den Kaffee abholen soll. Ich dachte erst, sie macht ein Witz, weil sie die drei Meter ohne Probleme hätte gehen können und den ersten ja auch an den Tisch gebracht hat. Jetzt wusste ich, sie steht darauf. Ich also Kaffee abgeholt und mir im Stillen meinen Teil gedacht. Kafkaesk oder halt so einer bestimmten Fetisch Szene zuordenbar. Beides ist nicht mein Cup of tea. Immerhin war sie bildhübsch, was die Groteske ein bisschen gemildert hat. Der Kaffee schmeckte hervorragend. Das Essen hat auch geschmeckt. Allerdings muss man Preis-Leistungsverhältnis nachjustieren. Man sieht dem Brot an, dass die Besitzer zwar ambitioniert sind, aber scheinbar nicht vom Fach. Viele Bahnen mit der Dekosoße, die aber geschmacklich nicht wirklich was hinzufügt. Farblich schön auch ein paar Blüten auf dem Brot: Aber auch hier ist die Absicht spürbarer, als der Effekt schmeckbar. Ich denke, es ist auf jeden Fall gut, dass die Besitzer andere Akzente setzen wollen und auch einige sehr lecker klingende Frühstücke anbieten. Ich würde jederzeit wieder einen Kaffee bestellen. Aber to go, weil das Theater der jungen Dame einfach nur genervt hat. Ihre Vorlieben soll sie privat ausagieren. In einem fast komplett leeren Café ist das unpassend. Kaffee fünf Sterne. Essen: 3+ und...

Breakfast is a bit expensive, but they do give you a lot of food. The coffee is tasty. This location definitely has a bit of a different vibe than The Visit near Kotti. Here there is lots of space and clean, comfy tables. Only criticism, however, is the music. I'm not sure why some coffee shops insist on playing loud pop music. These are places where people want to meet to converse, read a book, have some food, relax, work. It's impossible with the type of music/level of music playing. I hate to sound full grandma on this topic, but I feel the atmosphere doesn't...
