OFFSIDE Pub & Whisky Bar — Restaurant in Berlin

My wife and I had the immense pleasure of spending an evening at Offside for my birthday. From the moment we walked in, the quirky charm of the decor immediately drew us in - there was so much to look at and we could both tell everything had a story. The train set on the ceiling, the sleds, the Sesame Street characters, just so charming. And then… the whiskey collection. I have never seen so many different whiskeys in my life and if that wasn’t impressive enough, the meister himself attended our every whiskey need throughout the evening. He was unbelievably knowledgeable and lit up like a kid on Christmas at the opportunity to be able to share what he was so passionate about - a genuinely refreshing experience in a world of mass produced fast products and experiences. As if that wasn’t enough, a box of ‚happy birthday‘ chocolates was presented as a birthday gift - a gesture that really made my night - and an indication that kind gestures are not dead in the gastronomy environment in Berlin.

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening and the ability to slow down and enjoy the experience was such a nice change to the usual hum of some Berlin bars. In addition, the service was immaculate. The lady behind the bar was cheerful, positive, accommodating and attentive with a perfect balance of making us feel comfortable but not over-served (a difficult balance). The food was brilliantly functional and soaked up the whiskey nicely (it was honestly nice to only really have 1 choice to make menu-wise). 10/10 bringing as many people as I know here for a dram and the largest portion of cheese and olives I’ve ever seen.

Unsympathischer, verantwortungsloser, betrügerischer Kundenservice! Terrible customer service! 差劲的客服!

Vor einem Monat hat das Ereignis passiert und ich hatte erst jetzt Zeit darüber zu schreiben. Normalerweise bin ich kein nachtragender Mensch, aber es war so wahnsinnig ärgerlich, dass ich es auch nach fast 2 Monaten nicht vergessen habe.

Ich habe Tickets für die Whiskey-Verkostung für mich und einen Kumpel als sein Geburtstagsgeschenk gebucht. Ich habe die Tickets anderthalb Wochen vor dem Whiskey-Abend gebucht. Drei Tagen danach hat meinen Kumpel mir gesagt, dass es einen Todesfall in der Familie gab und er muss am Wochenende der Whiskey-Tasting zum Trauerfeier fahren. Ich habe dann sofort an die Offside Bar geschrieben und fragte nach einer Verschiebung oder Erstattung, und: „muß ich erst klären, wir melden uns in den nächsten Tagen bei Ihnen“ antwortete Lars Pechmann. Das war mehr als eine Woche vor dem Whiskey-Abend. Ich schrieb eine weitere Nachricht, nachdem ich nichts von ihnen gehört hatte, und sie schickten mir am Freitagabend um 23.45 Uhr eine Antwort, weniger als 24 Stunden vor der Whiskeyverkostung.

„Wir können die Tasting nicht verschieben, die Karten kann man auch nicht zurückgeben…aus verschiedenen Gründen, wie auch diesen, haben wir uns seit Jahren dazu entschieden, die Karten über TicketPay zu verkaufen…Wir sagen in solchen Fällen, dass man in der Bekanntschaft/Freundschaft fragen soll, damit die Tickets nicht verfallen.“ schrieb Nina Neuhaus.

Erstens, wir hatten auf jeden Fall die Tasting machen wollen, nur später, warum könnten wir nicht die Tasting einfach verschieben? Die Whiskeys werden jedoch nicht verfallen! Zweitens, kann man nicht so spontan jemanden finden, der an dem Tag Zeit und Lust auf eine Whiskey-Verkostung hat, warum haben sie bis am Tag der Tasting gewartet zurückzuschreiben, wenn ich bereits vor einer Woche mich gemeldet habe? Drittens, nach Mittelung vom TicketPay: „Erstattungen sind vom Offside kontrolliert“, die Tatsache, dass die Tickets von TicketPay gekauft werden, spielt also überhaupt keine Rolle.

Ich mag die Offside Bar, aber ich werde nie wieder dort eine Whisky-Tasting buchen und werde natürlich auch alle Verwandtschaften/Freundschaften warnen, sich davon...

Unfortunately I could not have the chance to visit the venue, but my goal was to gift my boyfriend a nice tasting. He speaks only B1 German, so I called and asked if the person who guides the tasting speaks English as well, in case he wants to ask something. The response was "here is Germany, we speak German", "In Berlin they offer everything in English and you cannot learn our language", "In France it would be in French, right" (Btw there are amazing tours in French ad luckily also other open places who are OK with welcoming non-German speakers.
