Pantry Berlin Review - Shocking Service
I felt I had to leave a review based on quite possibly the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Overall the meal and service was good, right up until the point of paying. We paid in cash but received no receipt or change back. Being in a rush I requested a receipt and my change back, which was more than 15% of the bill. Adding to this, I wasn’t sure if the bill included the service or not.
Assuming there was a mix up and the waitress assumed the remaining cash was a tip. I approached another waitress in brown hair and a pony tail , explaining we wanted our receipt and change back as we were leaving.
Instead of politely giving me the receipt and money back, she aggressively asked “why am I not tipping?” , to which I explained, I simply want my receipt and change back and the table will decide on how much they want to tip.
She then dashed for the table of guests and rudely asked “is there a problem with the service!” .
Further lecturing the entire table that “in Germany we pay a 10% tip!”. It was embarrassing to see a waitress behave this way. The rude and demanding attitude left the entire dinner experience on an all time low.
If she had simply given the money and receipt back in the right way, we would have have had no issue leaving a tip. The irony being, the waitress who actually served us our meal was actually really nice and deserved a tip.
There is no excuse to confront an entire table in such a rude and demanding manner. It's not the way to do things in Germany or anywhere else in the world.
Note for the restaurant and waitress:
When a customer pays for a meal in a restaurant, and they request their change and receipt back, don’t start lecturing them on tipping etiquette. It’s rude and really lowers the tone of the service. It’s the customers discretion on when and how much they tip.

We ordered starter and main we got the main after more than 1 1/2 hour the time I waited and ate the soup inward already hungry then I ordered 200g meat with potatoes esparagus and salat I ordered medium they bring me the meat inside blood red salad the bred inside the salat was soft already so it means it stand for a while. Thr potatoe gratin or whatever it was was cold as well it was a disaster but I was hungry and didn’t wanted to make a fuss so I ate it !
