Handy for those staying in the Hotel Central Inn - indeed it’s where one goes for breakfast.

The place has an attractive old-fashioned feel to it, richly decorated with old continental signs and bric-a-brac. It has a big bar on the left as you enter and the whole place is surprisingly roomy: it’s a very large room (a small hall almost) with many dining tables going back to the far end.

Drinkers are more likely to stick around the front though with a raised dais on the right, a couple of smaller tables by the bar and a cosy area between the bar and the front of the building. It has a nice friendly ambience and was phenomenally popular when we were in there. The restaurant was packed out on a Thursday evening.

The perfect place for comfort food. Clearly, it is well loved by locals, but it was the perfect escape from the train station food court offerings. I was welcomed with many nods and greetings from customers, staff and the owner, alike. 120 years of restaurant history, wonderful service, delicious potato soup, beer and meatball snack plate. After over 24 hours of travel and transit, this was a great reward. Beautiful celebratory flaming liquor and giant bowls of cream desert paraded past, but I had no room left, and feared that I’d slip into a blissful food coma right there on the cozy red velvet benches. Wir waren als Besuchergruppe über das Bundespresseamt hier zum Mittagessen und wurden maßlos enttäuscht.

Unser Mittagessen begann damit, dass abgestandene Getränke serviert wurden. Sämtliche Kohlensäure hatte sich wortwörtlich bereits in Luft aufgelöst.

Kurz darauf wurde als Vorspeise eine Spinatcremesuppe serviert. Geschmacklich war diese zwar gut, aber leider nur noch lauwarm. Schade.

Als Hauptgang gab es dann scheinbar die Schweinemedaillons von der Karte. Genau sagen lässt sich das nicht, weil das Essen so abgrundtief schlecht war.

Das Fleisch war total trocken und zäh, eine reinste Qual überhaupt einen Bissen runter zu bekommen. Das Ganze wurde in einer nicht definierbaren weißen Sauce mit wenigen Champignons und Tomatenstücken ertränkt.

Als Beilage gab's sagenhafte 4 Kroketten. Vermutlich waren diese zwar Tiefkühlprodukte, aber immerhin haben Sie geschmeckt.

Insgesamt war der Hauptgang eine Katastrophe. Die Küche sollte sich schämen, so etwas zu servieren. Auf Beschwerden einiger Personen aus der Gruppe wurde lautstark reagiert.

Positiv möchte ich lediglich die an sich urige Innenausstattung anmerken. Bedauerlicherweise geht diese durch eine Vielzahl von Schildern an den Wänden etwas verloren.

Mit Blick auf die weiteren Rezensionen muss man leider feststellen, dass es sich bei unserer Gruppe nicht um einen Einzelfall gehandelt hat.

Zusammenfassend bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass das Bundespresseamt den Vertrag mit diesem Lokal nicht erneuert und weiteren Besuchergruppen diese Erfahrung erspart bleibt! Privatpersonen rate, ich einen großen Bogen um diese Küche zu machen.
