San Marco — Restaurant in Berlin

Okay so I’ve been here a decent amount of times and was always happy with what I got. Can’t complain over a decent pizza at that price. Never had any issues until two nights ago when I went with a friend and ordered a calzone, about three thirds in I noticed a hair sticking out and pulled on it to see if it maybe was my own but it came from inside the calzone. To me it’s really not that big of a deal, I worked in service for years and I know that sht happens and can easily be resolved so I just informed my server about the hair and that I didn’t want to finish my meal and just asked for the check. I was not making a big deal out of it whatsoever. When he arrived with the check though, I was a little confused as to why they didn’t at least discount my meal and he seemed a little uncomfortable when I pointed it out and told me, the owner/manager didn’t want to take it off or give a discount. So I asked to speak with him and that guy was so unpleasant, dude. He came out WITH the hair, waved it around in front of my face, telling me that nobody working there has long hair and that it’s definitely mine and wasn’t inside the calzone. He practically yelled at me, was probably the most unprofessional I’ve ever encountered, completely out of line and accused me of placing my own hair on the plate to get a discount. I just gave him the money, got up and told him I won’t be coming back, which is a shame, really, I did like going there. He couldn’t have cared less, sure with those prices they’ll never have to worry about customers coming in.. I feel bad for the staff having to deal with such an a*, they were always super friendly....

We have been in Berlin for many years and have gone to many reasonably priced Italian restaurants, and always had decent food. Until we tried this place.

First of all, the service was terrible. We were there for more than an hour before the (very overpriced) prawns and pizza finally arrived. And only after we asked what was happening with our food, because two tables that were seated way after us were already eating. Then the guy came with the food and made sure to give us a lot of attitude, by saying that this food isn't McDonalds, that it takes time?

Really? I worked in a craft beer restaurant before and cooked pizzas too, not exactly classy, but it was always crispy and tasty and fast. I cook prawns at home, and it's one of the fastest foods you can cook in the world - takes less than 5 minutes; a minute longer, and it's overcooked. The ones we got were long forgotten or thrown in the microwave.

The prawns were rubbery, shriveled, overcooked, and too salty. I think they cooked the prawns in the microwave. For €14.70, you got only four small prawns. It was a joke.

The pizza was worse than a microwave pizza. It was white, soft, undercooked and floppy. We had a tiny slice each and abandoned the pizza. Awful.

But nothing was worse than the bad attitude of the elder male server. It is only after coming home and reading from fellow one star reviewers, that I can see this guy is a running joke that needs to...

We were there on the weekend of June 7th, unfortunately for the last time. The restaurant used to be really good, but since the new owner took over, a lot has changed for the worse.

The service was very disappointing. You aren't served with friendliness or attention, but rather with arrogance. The staff seem disinterested – they don't check on the guests, don't come over to take your order, or ask if you want anything else. Instead, they're playing on their phones, smoking outside, or talking loudly among themselves. As a guest, you feel more like an intrusion than welcome.

The situation when paying was particularly annoying. We were told that card payments weren't possible, even though we saw that other tables were paying by card. So we had to go out and get cash. This was not only inconvenient, but also seemed dishonest.

Additionally, you get the feeling that you're being gossiped about or even insulted in a different language – you may not understand it, but the tone of voice and the looks unfortunately speak for themselves.

Overall, a very disappointing visit – a shame, because the restaurant used to have a completely different, much more welcoming atmosphere. The way it's currently run, the food is good, but unfortunately, we can't...
