Being a Srilankan myself, I was quite excited to go to eat Srilankan food that I can’t cook at home. Me, my boyfriend, and my friends went to Sigiriya last weekend. One of my friends is also Srilankan like me and unfortunately we were disappointed. We ordered all of the appetizers on the menu and asked to the waitress how many would be in each plate..she said one of each.. this really shocked me and my other friend. 3,90€ for one rolls, 3,90€ for one elolu roti and 3,90€ for 2 lentils vaddai is over priced but not only the price, they were served not so warm. The vaddai were really dried and the rolls you could actually feel that they were heated in the oven. When my mom makes rolls it is crunchy the bread crumps and of course there is a variety of rolls. Either with veggies or with meat or with fish. In the restaurant the filling of the rolls and the elolu roti was the same so flavor wise was not changing. Then as main dishes we all ordered appe (hoppers) with different curry. I was really waiting to eat appe as it is one of my favorite dishes from Srilanka. When the dishes arrived the hoppers were cold and not crunchy on the borders. Hoppers have to be served immediately after they have been taken out of the pan or be kept in a warm place in order to remain warm and crunchy. This was not the case. They were cold as well as the egg hoppers.. my boyfriend wanted the pol sambol ( which he always likes it when I do it but I do it with the dried coconut powder.) I told him to take it as I thought that he might get it the proper way which is with the fresh grated coconut.. and it wasn’t. It was like I do it with the dried powder as I don’t have the scrapper for coconut at home.. so in one hand it was disappointing as I wanted him to try the fresh coconut sambol. The only good thing I really enjoyed was the lamb curry which was tasty but served cold...
