Warning, if you are seeking exceptional food and experience then avoid this place and find the local place near by (no names mentioned but there is an exceptional German place near by).. avoid this place if possible. , you are likely going to get disappointed.
First I’d like to say despite everything I still left these guys a substantial tip, my bill was nearly 200 euros for 2 people. I am not shy of spending a lot for both wine and food as well as a great experience, but the dissonance factor has to work, and it did not.
Here’s where everything that went ‘ok’ and then completely ‘wrong’. I have reviewed a lot of restaurants some of which have not made on this list, including Michelin Star. generally, I do make an honest effort to be fair and unbiased. It’s mainly about the food and of course the overall cognitive dissonance when you leave a place.. neither of which where pleasant for me or my partner.
I rate places on several dimensions, the most important clearly is the food and following second the service, not time but in human level experience. I am very pragmatic in how I do this and usually do not rate places if they fall in the middle since it adds no real value to other people seeking a fantastic experience.
First, the food was mediocre at best and unmemorable, infact it was pretty bad and still leaves lingering void in my mouth. The fish which my wife had was left unfinished and she usually doesn’t waste food, so that says a lot, it smelled extremely fishy and shared the same postponement ingredients as the steak, ridiculous and unimaginative !
The appetizer admittedly had some unique cheeses but mainly local cheese and meat you would get at your local Rewe. The wine, wow the wine, was ridiculously overpriced and only “after the fact of serving it” by a factor of 10x, maybe more. I have had less expensive Amorone,Barolo, Bordeaux, Margaux, .... wines in Venezia, Paris, ... which are some of the most expensive places in the world, and at top restaurants, that were mouth dropping then what I had here by a factor of at least 3x, and yet cost at least 2x less. Absolutely ridiculous and frankly a rip off! I ordered 35 euro wine and they gave me a 110 euro wine because they other one was not available without notifying me of the MASSIVE price difference.. and frankly it was not even that great.
The service was ok, sure timely delivery of the food and the staff seemed pleasant, but...
I was debating how to review this place during dinner, I even orderer extra including desert to get a feel for other flavours; as we slowly chatted and deliberated on our experience, no I am not pretentious but I do make an effort to give honest feedback.. frankly we originally concluded based on several factors that the place deserved a maximum of 7.5 until the last part destroyed all my expectations and hopes for this place.
The reality is that if you want to get ripped off and eat garbage then go here, otherwise there are much greater options nearby to...
Read moreI like to go to Italian places to eat, the atmosphere is always very pleasant and the service over the top. Not the case here though.
The food was okay, wine was good, but the service was horrible to say the least. I never felt so unwelcome. We were sat by the bar and the owner Luigi, I believe it was his name, was passing the dirty dishes and empty bread baskets over my head to the waiter behind the bar. He came to our table at least 3 times asking if we wanted to pay when we were still eating the main dish and our wine glasses were full. He plainly said standing right next me to some locals that came in that a table was to be freed in 10 minutes when we were still finishing our dessert and our wine glasses half full. We still paid some solid money and leave a little tip. To be honest, the chef gave us a better service when he brought one of our dishes to the table. That says a lot. I still paid 60€ for an unpleasant time and left some underserved tip.
Don't recommend and not sure I...
Read morePeople need to know……. It seems to me that some Italian restaurants offer honest, decent fare in a low key way and then others are all glitz and show to cover up below average fare. No prizes for guessing which category we’re talking here.
The upshot: Primi of pulpo on a potato cream consisted of 2 small pieces of pulpo deep fried to an inch of their life. Placed in a potato soup type sauce. Little taste of potato or anything else really. main of fileto di vitello. A big show made of asking whether i wanted it medium rare or medium. What’s the point if the chef only does well done anyway? No flavor Pepe verde sauce. Cold ratatouille of veg. For a pretty saucy €24.
An Extra star is awarded for a good sized portion of spinach. How sad is that?
Got going after that.
