NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE!
The restaurant itself looks pleasant and has a nice atmosphere, but the way it is run shows little understanding of true hospitality. When we entered and greeted the staff, no one responded. In fact, we were ignored at first. When we asked for a table, a staff member simply pointed towards one, without a smile or any friendly interaction.
The service continued in the same manner. The waiter placed menus on the table without saying a word, and while taking our order, his only response was a short “Bitte,” with no further conversation. The food was acceptable but nothing special. When my friend asked for mayonnaise, the only response was a gesture pointing to a container.
During our meal, we saw kitchen and bar staff smoking in front of the restaurant, then returning immediately to their work. Our empty plates and glasses stayed on the table for more than 20 minutes, and no one asked if we wanted to order anything else.
Overall, the experience felt focused on serving large numbers of tourists rather than offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The name “Old Cochem” suggests charm and tradition, but the service we experienced created an unpleasant and...
Read moreVery rude staff.
When we entered the restaurant, we passed several staaf members but not one of them greeted us. Then we asked a waiter "Do you have a table for two on the upstairs terrace?", to which he replied by just shrugging his shoulders and didn't say one thing. We went upstairs and found a table for two.
After we sat down, people on the other side of the terrace left, leaving tables near the edge of the terrace empty. We stood up and asked an other waiter whether we could sit there. He angrily replied "No! It's not clear!", like we asked a really dumb question. We were just trying to be polite and ask, instead of just going over there and sitting down. We then decided to leave, since we couldn't be treated in a normal manner.
The staff of this restaurant should really take some lessons in friendliness. There are a million ways to treat people like human beings, but...
Read moreI ordered the pig knuckle, a dish I am familiar with, but hearty. I waited until I had appetite. My husband ordered lamb steak. My experience: the pork knuckle was not roasted, rather dropped into a deep fryer. So the outside third was hard and inedible. The inner portion was passable but not enjoyable. The lamb was tough. Our experience was destroyed by hordes of flies, which made every mouthful a challenge. Staff watched and laughed as we swatted flies away from our food. No one helped. Eventually, we took our plates inside, without assistance. And we had to insist on seeing the manager. Who didn't care. Unsanitary. Don't bother. As a post script, the manager dropped the charges for the food when I said I was...
