Unfortunately, there isn't much pleasantries to say about this place, even though it looks impressive from the outside.
Service was alright to 'meh' at Alte Wein Wirtschaft, but food and drinks were pricey and nothing to brag about. Their cocktails were not worth paying for, as they were mild in alcohol and mixture wasn't great. Food was on the higher price range and were not all that impressive. It was pretty standard and when you ask for sauces, mayo, tomato sauce etc. You'd be given the whole bottle like you would grab from the fridge at home, or getting sauces from a diner with a hotdog or pommes.
For the exorbitant prices you'd be paying for at this restaurant, you pretty much get diner standard food. And the high cost you pay would only be for the "outdoor/ multi-level sitting". Although this restaurant has at least four different levels to choose from, the tables and chairs are crampped together and close to one another. Leaving little privacy and personal space between your table and the next. The tables themselves are unfortunately also very small, so when food and drinks arrive, you'd lack any space even for your hands to rest on.
Sadly, I cannot recommend this place and it would not be a place we'd be...
Read moreAfter a long day we landed at this appealing looking restaurant. The menu was robust but with too many items for my taste. The waiter had good energy, but could have turned it down a bit. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was on something else than life.
The wine arrived and thought it was lemon juice, but thankfully it was just left open for over two weeks.
Bread and butter was ordered for 5, and you get 4 slices of bread. After this the waiters disappeared for almost half an hour.
As soon as they reappeared the food started to pop out of the kitchen. The issues started to get even worse. The schnitzels were cold, the way to small baked potato was undercooked by chef microwave, fries soggy AF, but the cucumber salad was decent.
We were thinking of leaving and asked for the bill. At that point we noticed that the cucumber salad, of which we thought was part of the dish, costs €6 per person. And back at the hotel we asked the restaurant if we could still have dinner there.
If you have the possibility to wash money down the drain, this restaurant is a recommendation. Otherwise go to...
Read moreI don't know where the owners and staff are coming from, and it doesn't matter either, but they should be aware that there is more to German hospitality than just putting some ornaments against the walls and ceilings and putting up an act. The service is very superficial due to some clear language barriers and lack of interest. The food is less than average. During the ordering, they start selling additional stuff: salads are being offered but also charged (3,5 for kraut and 4,9 for cucumber!). This really adds up when being there with a party of six. A beer is 6,90 EUR! Party of six resulted in 177 EUR for just a schnitzel, unedible fries and this so-called salad which is nothing more than cucumber or kraut being scooped into a small bowl. I still wish those people all the luck, but I also want to make potential customers aware that there are MUCH better places in Cochem than this one offering more...
