Café Rotkehlchen (Kalk) — Restaurant in Cologne

Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience today at the cafe. We ordered 2 espressos which we never received. We waited around 45 minutes and asked the bartender twice (very politely) when can we expect our order. The second time she came at us with a very rude attitude and asked us if we do not see that she has a lot of work and the cafe is full. After that, we kindly asked her to refund us, as we would like to leave which she said she doesn't know how to do it, so she will not. I had a very bad experience in this café unfortunately. I have ordered two type of sweets and couldn't eat them because they were probably not fresh and too hard. Really too hard that I couldn't cut them. They were not eatable! The staff were generally nice but it would be good if they just take feedback and critic more open and not personal. I can not accept excuses like "yes because it vegan" or "because its dried fruit". How does this even make any sense? Vegan and dried does not mean it should be too hard to be eaten. I really wished that they would try it themselves but the guy was a bit rude and...

This is our go-to vegan place when we visit friends in Köln-Kalk and want a really good vegan breakfast or some excellent vegan cake. We have been here maybe a dozen times, and I can't remember one thing that didn't taste great. Most things can only be described as amazing. I'm a big sucker for the vegan Mett-Brötchen (Mett-Brötchen is a bread roll with minced raw pork, typical for the area of Cologne). But I can also recommend the vegan goat cheese sandwich or the carrot-salmon bagel. Since there are not so many seats, we usually get our order as takeout.
