VAPIANO Köln Constantinstraße — Restaurant in Cologne

My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant after a convention. We were greeted at the front counter and given instructions on how to order. Although the machines to order on were down at the time we were there, the waiters and cooks were extremely helpful at ensuring we got our orders in.

We ended up ordering the Pinisa Funghi and Pasta All’Arrabbiata. The food was finished quickly, allowing us to fill satisfied quickly. Hence why the photos contain half eaten dishes. The pasta had an extremely well balanced taste profile with the pasta cooked perfectly. It was just a little spicy while not being completely overwhelming, which made for a wonderful combination of tastes. The Pinisa was cooked wonderfully allowing the bread to be airy and crunchy, providing a magnificent texture to a simple yet delicious tasting dish.

Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone. However, I can understand Americans being a bit confused by the process when ordering. The good news is the staff is friendly and will most certainly help you along the way as long as you are willing to...

We came here to eat because there are gluten free options and we are visiting Koln for 2 nights. The card system is strange but if this is how they do things in Germany then that's fine. I ordered my gluten free pizza and a drink 30 seconds after my boyfriend ordered his pizza and drink. The wait was quite long but eventually my buzzer sounded and I collected my pizza. My boyfriend continued to wait and wait, assuming his pizza would be ready within a few minutes of mine. His buzzer did not work it seemed so when he went to the counter his pizza was ready a while but had been put back in the oven and was hard and was too crispy and dry. Should the chef or waitress not notice us waiting, one person with food and the other with none? The restaurant was almost empty, not difficult to look after needs of a small number of guests. My pizza was very undercooked, not enjoyable really. The bill was almost €45 fir 2 pizzas and 3 Coca Colas. Like the typical (big & popular) franchising restaurant worldwide, they actually know what to do. IMHO, Vapiano Deutz is the first Vapiano in town and since its grand opening has been running quite well - thats why no wonder about some critics due to the slow service.

My very charming guy took three of us there on a nice Saturday for lunch and eventhough it was very busy we were well greeted and served. If Im not mistaken, they got me a wrong pasta but as I complained they got me the wrong one rite away without any arguments ( as its quite normal in such moderate restaurants in the country ).

If you like such fast (but not BAD) food, italian mixed asian or lets say convenient dishes with reasonable pricing system and dont mind with the modern concept ( order the food at the live-cooking bar n holding a beeper til it beeps to let you know to pick up the food ) with nice range of beverages ( yupe they got these Arizona Tees ) and tempting desserts.
