Grohe Brauhaus — Restaurant in Darmstadt-Mitte

Imagine that I've been to Darmstadt ~12 times and had never been to this oldest brewery in Darmstadt, before.

I came in to the bar area and every table was taken and there were no seats at the bar. I was about to leave when the waitress asked the foursome at the front table (the Stammtisch) if they would mind letting me take a seat at their reserved table. They agreed and I sat and ordered a plate of HandKäse mit Musik with a chocolate Porter. I noticed the woman to my left was interested in my choice so I offered her a taste of my drink. She declined but thanked me.

After I nearly finished my plate I ordered a huge salad and then as I finished that I ordered what they were having, the Heller, a tasty medium dark beer.

We all clinked our glasses and chatted in broken German and English.

The woman on my left told me about her grandfather who was the original owner of this bar in the 1920s. She walked me over to a black and white photo over the bar of her aunt and grandfather back in the day. That explained why they were all sitting at the Stammtisch, I said. Yep.

They reserved that table at 7 pm every other week and have been doing that every single time for almost 30 years, when it was a group of 8. The husband of the woman opposite me was 79 and looked no older than me ( shut up...

I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at Grohe Restaurant in Darmstadt, reinforced by the unsatisfactory exchange of emails with the management. After celebrating a birthday with a group of eight, we were shocked to discover an additional charge of 10 euros for bringing our own cake (we took beers and had lunch 8 people). Not only were we not informed of this fee during our meal, but we were also not provided with utensils or plates for the cake. In response to my email expressing my dissatisfaction, the management's reply was dismissive and lacked any semblance of customer service. Instead of addressing our concerns with empathy and understanding, they chose to justify the charge and even criticized our actions of bringing a cake without prior permission and using six additional napkins when eating the cake.The tone of their response was condescending, insinuating we do not know how to behave in a restaurant. The first thing that caught my attention was the fantastic layout of the place. They have both indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing you to choose your preferred atmosphere. The indoor area is cozy with a modern rustic vibe, while the outdoor patio is perfect for enjoying a sunny day or a cool evening under the stars.

Now, let’s talk about the beer—simply the best in the city! I’m a huge craft beer enthusiast, and didn’t disappoint. They offer a wide variety of brews, from crisp lagers to rich stouts, and each one was exceptional. You can tell that they take pride in their brewing process, as every sip is packed with flavor.
