Grill 69 Happy Food Bar — Restaurant in Dortmund

My review here is only about the service and the attitude and not about the food. On the way back home today (Wednesday) from the city center with a friend of mine, I remember I have a Groupon voucher for Grill 69 and thought it will be a great chance to use it. I want to make clear that I aware of and respect the limitations of those vouchers (telling when it’s possible to use it, till when, if reservation is needed and so on…). I wasn’t sure about those limitations in this voucher but thought way not to give it a try and jump over since I’m already 5 min walk from the place. The time was 16:30 and the place was TOTALLY empty, empty empty empty, inside and outside, not even a dog was there. We entered inside and I mentioned before the man who was standing there that I have a voucher from Groupon with me and that I’m not sure if I should have call to do a reservation or not. He said that yes, that we should make a reservation since like MANY vouchers were already bought in Groupon. We looked at him, we looked around us and at the empty chairs and back at him and just asked: “Sooo is it possible to make this reservation for now?” (with like a half smile)…. He just opened his diary and said “no, now it’s not possible but maybe I have a table for tomorrow or after tomorrow…”. With shock faces and no words we just replied that we will call them for that and left the place not only shocked but also very disappointed. I would have clearly understand if there were costumers sitting there….. but, really!? Your restaurant is totally empty, no one was sitting there, where are all those Groupon costumer or random costumer?? It’s not about being nice or not or “breaking the rules”, it’s about a simple service orientation, which clearly this place doesn’t have. I don’t understand this arrogance attitude and I certainly will give my voucher away to who...

DER BURGER Die Burger konnten geschmacklich leider nicht mit der Konkurrenz in Dortmund mithalten. Unsere Burger waren allesamt kalt und wirkten nicht besonders frisch. Mein Burgerbrötchen war sehr "lätschig" und nicht schmackhaft knusprig wie es sein sollte. Sauce und Fleisch war in Ordnung. Insgesamt kann man einen solchen Burger an jeder Ecke bekommen...eine ausgezeichnete Qualität oder einen besonderen Geschmack konnten wir leider nicht feststellen.

DER SERVICE Leider war der erste Eindruck schon einmal nicht der Beste... was soll man als Gast auch sagen, wenn man im ersten Moment enttäuscht wird und sich ein "Wochenendangebot" als dreiste Verkaufsmasche herausstellt? Bei der Bestellung hatten wir einige Änderungswünsche wie zum Beispiel eine alternative Sauce auf dem Burger. Leider konnte keine meiner Extrawünsche korrekt umgesetzt werden... die Sauce war nicht die bestellten und meine Beilage war auch falsch. Die Beilage wurde mir erneuert, was allerdings so lange dauerte, dass der Burger bereits aufgegessen war... Über falsch servierte Bestellungen kann man hinweg sehen, was aber gar nicht geht ist, dass den Gästen dreist ins Gesicht gelogen wird! Während unseres Aufenthalts kamen einige Gäste in das Restaurant und wollten das Angebot nutzen...jedem Gast wurde die gleiche Lüge aufgetischt und man hatte den Eindruck, dass die meisten Besucher auch ziemlich enttäuscht waren.

DAS FAZIT Insgesamt sind wir leider nicht überzeugt worden. Die Burger waren nicht besonders und der Service war frech, dreist und unfähig. Leider werden wir den Grill69 nicht mehr besuchen....sehr sehr...

What can I say? We were with a friend and fiancée here. The burgers were amazing but that's not the important bit.

When the owner and his wife knew that it was our first time in Dortmund, they instantly started helping us on what to do and where to go. Everything with such friendliness and empathy. It really made our day. They even spoke Spanish (my mother tongue) to us. It was certainly a highlight on our mini Euro trip with our friend.
