We stayed for one night in a privilege room for a football match. We requested one on higher floor and they gave us on the 4th floor, out of 5, with a city view. The staffs were friendly. We spoke German the entire time.
A refreshing water dispenser next to the reception allows us to refill our water bottle anytime. You can also request for a glass water bottle that you can carry to your room.
Some environmental friendly actions that I notice are: wooden cards instead of plastic, green labeled towels, digital hotel information.
The room was spacious, provided with a desk, a sofa, and a walk-in closet with full body mirror. There is a functional cute vintage safe in the closet that you can use. Slippers and bathrobe are provided as well. A Nespresso coffee machine was provided with 3 coffee pods, but there isn’t any tea.
The big tv allows us to cast from our device, such as YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify. I can tilt the tv to adjust the angle depending on where I watch it from. The sofa is relatively hard, but nicely set with the coffee table with a nice view outside.
The bed was spacious and comfortable with the right amount of hard. The duvet cover was rather thick and the pillows are nice and fluffy. The curtains don’t smell fresh but managed to cover the outside light, even though not entirely.
They have nice reading lights with adjustable positions. The bedroom is a bit dark in the night. There isn’t any main big light in the middle of the room. Other than the lights on the headboard, there are only a couple of standing lamps with warm lights, one on the desk and another one in the sofa corner.
The windows aren’t soundproof. I can hear the traffic outside, although it wasn’t so bad. However, then it rained, the raindrops made loud noise when they hit the metal frame right outside the windows. The noise woke me up from my sleep and I had to continue my sleep with earplugs.
The temperature of the room was set to around 22 °C. I wasn’t aware that they have both heaters behind the curtains and air conditioner. I set up the AC next to the bathroom, but not the heaters. I ended up waking up in the middle of the sleep to cool down the temperature.
The bathroom is bright but rather old style compared to the bedroom. I had a bath and can see all the blackened grout lines. They provided body soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and body lotion. Some of the products were almost run out, as a matter of fact, the body lotion was out. It didn’t bother me but it would be nice to have a standard for it. They listed out the things you can request such as comb, dental kit, shower cap, etc if needed.
The mini gym and the sauna are located in the basement. The sauna costs 5€ per room. There are bathrooms, shower room, massage room, and changing room provided.
The location is great. There is an underground train station nearby, less than 5 minutes of slow walk. Some places for food within 5 minutes walk radius even until 1 am. Relatively quiet and peaceful surroundings.
Improvement recommendations: • pillows on the sofa will increase the comfort. • for the safety box, removing the instruction on the inside to put some coins into the box will reduce confusion. • modernizing the bathroom, or at least, replacing the grout lines will make a huge impact. • have a minimum amount of products in the bathroom. • any possibilities to soundproof...

Great area. The underground train station is around the corner and the main train station about 20 mins walk or less. ||Rooms: |Our room was nice (117) we had 3 in our party so the room had one double bed and a pull out sofa bed which was a double. It left the room with hardly any space to walk around so was quite tight. The decor was nice. However the seal on the window was damaged so you could actually feel the breeze getting in (during snow weather) The tv had only one English Channel so wasn’t great. |BE WARNED check if there is any party’s or function on in the hotel if you are staying in this room as there was a party on while we stayed and literally felt like the dj was in our wardrobe the music was that loud. Singing and talking could even be heard clearly. I did say it to girl in reception the next morning and she apologised but literally got no sleep until music stopped. ||Bar/Food:|We did not have dinner in the hotel restaurant so cannot comment. Restaurant decor was ok, very 1920’s feel. There is a very small bar that usually only opens from 5pm-12pm however one of the days they opened for us to have a drink at 3:30pm which was no bother for them, they were very nice and a special mention to Ben the new Barman from the UK. He’s great! Breakfast wasn’t great, but that may be just us that’s used to Irish style food. Not much hot food on offer, pancakes and plenty fab pastries though. ||If going to a Dortmund match :|We travelled to Dusseldorf airport and got the sky train into the main train station on to Dortmund €16.50 each one way. It was difficult to find out correct trains ect as very bad signage at airport and trains so do your homework before you get there. It took us over an hour to figure it out. Train journey from airport was 50 mins. We got a taxi from our hotel to signal iduna park and it took 8 mins and costs €14. Easy to get taxis after match too which...
Read moreSuper simple & flexible online booking with the option to make specific requests. A welcoming reception staff ensure a great start to your stay (a particular commendation to Ben who went above & beyond to accommodate our specific needs - a model employee in a customer facing service). The rooms and furnishings are comfortable and well appointed; the blackout curtains and air conditioning are very welcome as is the well stocked minibar! (A small carton of fresh milk would be a great addition). The hotel is well situated for all amenities in Dortmund. The breakfast offering is OK but falls below the Extrablatt cafe 200m away in terms of range, quality & price. The Mercure is my go to place to stay in Dortmund - thoroughly recommend. Generally excellent but desk a bit too close to the bed Superbly friendly and accommodating staff Fair price for the accommodation and services quality Perfect Fairly consistent and usable though patchy connection in some areas. Download speeds on low side at less than 10Mb/s when tested Extremely well designed and appointed after renovation Only had the breakfast but thought the range was a little limited and hit buffet food left standing too long and dries out. Would also like to see drip coffee available instead of or as well as the automatic machine OK but needs a greater range of alcohol free options eg. wine, gin, whiskey & cocktails. Often have to go in search of someone to serve so a bell push on the bar would help Decor, furnishings, background music and affable staff make it a...
