If you’re looking for authentic Indian food, this is not it. The lassis were really good so I’ll give them credit for that. It was really disappointing since I’d heard so many good things from other Indians themselves and the place is run by an Indian.
I was told the tandoor items were good here but the chicken platter was not good. It was overcooked and tough and some parts of the chicken were cold which makes me think they just reheated old food. The flavours seemed a bit off, almost like the marinade was made with artificial flavouring out of a bottled sauce. My non-Indian friends seemed to like the flavour so that’s upto personal preference I suppose. The chutneys/ dipping sauces that were served were pretty artificial tasting as well.
The dum biryani was heavily tasting of tomato and was the main flavour component. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t biryani, it was tomato pulao. So it was okay but it wasn’t what we ordered.
We also had the Nilgiri Chicken Curry which really ruined the whole meal for me. It was sweet and in a really terrible way. It was supposed to have coriander and green chillies in a flavourful coconut base but all I could taste was the green chutney from earlier which was diluted and cooked with coconut milk. It made me nauseous from the artificial taste.
Maybe their items like Chicken Tikka and Butter Chicken is better because those are the popular items but even stuff like their biryani and tandoor platter was disappointing. In my opinion, catering to the non-Indian audience has ruined the food. I wish they would just cook what they would normally eat at home. These days that’s what people like. I had the same people over for dinner and cooked biryani for them, the way it’s meant to be made and even they agreed it was way better than what we had at Sangam.
TL;DR not authentic Indian, if you want the usual chicken tikka/butter chicken and...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of dining at Sangam Erlangen, an Indian restaurant that left me and my guests completely satisfied. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the stage for a memorable culinary experience.
To start, we couldn't resist trying the garlic naan and vegetable samosa. The naan was freshly baked, perfectly fluffy, and infused with just the right amount of garlic flavor. The vegetable samosas were a delightful combination of crispy pastry and a savory filling, bursting with aromatic spices.
For the main course, we ordered the chicken tikka and palak sauce chicken. The chicken tikka was incredibly tender, marinated to perfection, and had a tantalizing smoky flavor. The palak sauce chicken, cooked in a creamy spinach sauce, was a true delight. The chicken was succulent and the sauce had a harmonious blend of spices that created a rich and flavorful dish.
To complement our meals, we indulged in the Mango-Kokossauce, a heavenly combination of mango and coconut flavors that added a touch of tropical sweetness to the palate. And of course, we couldn't resist trying the Mango Lassi, a refreshing and creamy yogurt-based drink that perfectly balanced the richness of the meal.
The service at Sangam Erlangen was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations. The presentation of each dish was impeccable, showcasing the chef's attention to detail.

Whether you're a fan of classic favorites or seeking new culinary adventures, Sangam Erlangen is a must-visit. Read moreI highly recommend Sangam Restaurant in Erlangen as the ultimate Indian dining spot. I have visited it more than five times and enthusiastically suggest it, especially for students. Among the delightful dishes, the Fish Tawa fry and Chicken 65 stand out with generous portion sizes, easily serving two people. The Chicken Curry or Fish Curry paired with Garlic Naan is a delightful combination – ordering just one is likely sufficient. In my view, no other restaurant in Erlangen matches Sangam in terms of portion generosity. It's undoubtedly the premier choice in town – don't hesitate to give it a try!
A special shoutout to Raja, who has been a stalwart at the restaurant for many years. Every time I visit, he recommends the best dishes tailored to my preferences, and it has never disappointed.
The food they serve is impeccably authentic, and it's the way they treat us that keeps me returning. Give their place a try; it's definitely worth the...
