Edit: How dare you pretend this never happened and ask me to delete my comment? Attached is proof that I was at your café. You say you don’t have waiters? I ordered at the counter and took everything to the terrace. Then one of you, short, with a face full of anger, came up to me yelling because the payment didn’t go through. When I later went inside to use the toilet, I spoke to a young blonde girl with long hair who confirmed that you believed it wasn’t my card,as if I had stolen it, and you kept yelling at me in German. When I said, “Of course it’s my card,” you went, “Ja, ja, ja…” This was the last place I went before I had to go to the airport and leave. You didn’t care about how I felt or the humiliation you caused, just because you knew I was a tourist. Yes, even after one year, I still remember the way you looked at me and how you made me feel. Just because you saw I had a Spanish card and I'm French.
One year later, I’m still shocked by the way I was treated in this café.
I visited last September with a friend. I’m French, living in Spain, and I paid contactless for my order before sitting outside on the terrace. A few minutes later, a horrible woman came out yelling at me in German. I didn’t understand what she was saying and asked the nice waitress who had served us what was wrong.
She told me the payment hadn’t gone through and asked me to enter my PIN. The other woman kept shouting in German, and I was so embarrassed in front of everyone that I immediately said, “It’s okay, if it didn’t go through, I’ll pay in cash.” I was still sitting right there, I wasn’t trying to leave without paying.
When I went inside to use the toilet, I asked the nice waitress why the other woman had been yelling at me as if I were a delinquent, when I was clearly not leaving. She told me it was because they believed it wasn’t my card. I was shocked, of course it was my card!
Now I finally understand the confusion: I’m currently travelling abroad and only noticed now that the payment confirmation message on the card reader appears in Spanish. Because of my French accent, they must have assumed the card wasn’t mine.
It was a humiliating and very uncomfortable experience that has stayed with me even a year later. I wish they had simply spoken to me calmly instead of accusing and...
