Café Cron & Lanz — Restaurant in Göttingen

Friendly service……. NOT HERE: during our visit to Göttingen yesterday, I googled the best places to have some coffee & cake. Cron & Lanz comes highly recommended, so off we head to experience it first hand. A board on a table indicates that we have to wait to be seated which we dutifully do. A waitress appears, walks past us without acknowledging us. I’ll call her Grumpy no. 1. Grumpy no. 2 does exactly the same. After the Grumpies had passed us a few times without any acknowledgement, we asked Grumpy no. 2 if we could be seated as we saw a table being vacated. Grumpy no. 2 told us that the table first had to be cleared which, of course, is logical. In the meantime we were joined in the row by another couple. Grumpy no. 1 then appears, addresses the other couple & sends them to the table we were waiting for (still not having acknowledged us). We then point this out to Grumpy no. 2 who shrugs her shoulders & says there’s nothing she can do about this & that we have to wait for the next available table. By this time we’re completely peeved & decide to leave. I, therefore, do not know how beautiful or delicious the cakes are, as I do not support establishments which treat me with such blatant disrespect & clearly do not need my custom. I am so disappointed with their service they completely ignored me and we're unpolite just because I was on the phone while waiting for them so I can pay the chocolate I wanted to buy. ( I don't know what's their problem with this, it's not like I'm working there so it's non of their business if I am talking on the phone or not they should just do their job at least if they can't even be friendly).The woman was very unfriendly and ironic even though I made eye contact with her and smiled showing that I am waiting patiently. I am sorry but for a such a place high class looking place I can't believe the personal is not giving a thing about how they treat their clients. And it's not the first time happening. Also the cakes and coffee are not the best there are so many other coffee places good in Göttingen. For their service they don't...

We had breakfast here and the food is absolutely delightful but the staff was very unfriendly, almost hostile. Perfectly cooked eggs, bread rolls and jelly. They have spacious seating and the café has an Austrian Coffee House vibe. The staff, however, is surprisingly unfriendly. The person at the main bar was complaining to its staff, and yelled at me about what a chaos everything was. When I wanted to pay for my food, I went inside to make it easier because I also wanted to get some goods to take home, and she complained that I couldn‘t just come in there and do that, and referred me to her side to wait. I was very surprised by how she was yelling so much. It did not fit into the ambience and the finely decorated and detailed pastries and sweets they offered.
