Brechtmanns Bistro — Restaurant in Hamburg

My wife and I booked for dinner well in advance with high expectations. Great reviews, pictures look fantastic. We were unfortunately quite disappointed. Service and ambient is very nice, the duck tastes delicious. But: 1st disappointment: having lived in Asia and eaten in many Asian restaurants in Europe, we didn’t find the asia dishes any special. 2nd disappointment: We insisted that we do not eat much and that the duck for main was a must. Waitress recommended we go for 3 entries. After the 3rd entry we were done for dinner, with the half duck + sides still to go. We took almost all of it home. Unfortunately doesn’t taste even closer eating at home the day after. 3rd disappointment: we were charged 23€ extra to the already 57€ of the half duck for the extra sides, due to sharing the half duck. It is true after we saw this written in the menu in small, small print. In all, about 140€, with just one beer and one glass of wine. Not what I understand a €€ Gmaps price and not worth...

Saturday evening, 18-23 h, six people. Incredibly good food, excellent service, a lot of charm, especially because despite the high-class food, the staff and atmosphere aren't stiff and snobby but refreshingly casual. The wine recommendations were perfect and offered something new besides the "normal" stuff. Our meals (pre-ordered), which are served in small portions after one another, allowed for enough time in between to digest, talk and look forward to the next course. If I counted correctly, each of us tasted seven different dishes and three different desserts, plus three different wines. That evening we had Asian-style meals, which were great, even though very meaty. Quite probably, the chef would also be able to create a wonderful vegetarian meal, bit we didn't ask - this time. Still, we're sure that this won't be our last time in this "star restaurant without stars". The chef himself had a look after his guests to make sure everything was...

A taste bombing Asian/German fusion experience. 11 high class servings in their summer menu, which was 45€ per head - a super reasonable price, not least considering that the serving sizes were truly “family style” - big enough for at whole family despite us only being two people. The quantity however, does not take anything away from the quality. Just remember to maybe go easy on the bread ;)

We went on a Sunday night in the summer holiday period, so the restaurant was close to empty - hence only 3 ⭐️ for atmosphere - but alround a great dining experience with quality above...
