Injera Eritrean und Ethiopian Restaurant — Restaurant in Hamburg

Noch so ein Zufallsfund am Rande des Steindamms, eher unscheinbar aber aber sicherlich kein Gehiemtipp mehr. An den vorderen Tischen saßen Touristengruppen mit gezückten Handykamers, im hinteren Gastraum Gruppen junger Männer, die Landsleute sein konnten. Das Ambiente ist schlicht, wie authetisch kann ich nicht beurteilen, ich hatte mit eritreisch-äthiopischer Küche erst einmal das Vergnügen und das war in Berlin und ist Jahre her. Ob eingedeutscht oder landestypisch, mich freute die große vegane Auswahl der insgesamt kleinen Karte. Das nicht näher deklarierte Fleisch in den Eintöpfen stellte sich auf Nachfrage als Hühnchen heraus, Kalb gab es auch. Die Getränkekarte ist sehr basic, den berühmten äthiopischen Kaffee soll man probiert haben, wurde mir gesagt. Wir sind nich so die Kaffetrinker, aber irgendwann versuch ist mal. Es sieht aus als gäbe es nur alkoholfreies Bier und auch sonst keinen Alkohol, kann mich aber täuschen. Ich bestellte eine vegane Auswahl, weil ich von allem etwas probieren wollte, mein Begleiter nahm ein mild gewürztens Fleischgericht. Beides war auf dem namensgebenden Injera, einem landestypischen Sauerteigfladen, angerichtet. Dieses Brot diente auch als Besteck - Stichwort authentisch - Gabel und Messer sucht man vergeblich, ebenso wie Papier auf den Toiletten. War vielleicht ein Versehen, wenn nicht würde ich mir zumindest eine Alternative zum Abbrauchsen wünschen. Der Service war freundlich aber es hat eine Weile gedauert und bezahlt wird wohl generell am Tresen. Zum Geschmack: Ich mochte insbesondere die Hülsenfrucht Komponenten und das Injera, teilweise waren die anderen Gemüse für meinen Gecshmack etwas zu wenig gewürzt. Der Mann fand das Fleisch gut aber die säußerliche Soße war nicht ganz so sein Ding. Injera Eritrean and Ethiopian Restaurant is a wonderful hidden gem that adds to the vibrant culinary scene in St. Georg. The food is bursting with authentic flavors and it really tastes like home cooking. The friendly and welcoming owner is more than happy to guide you through the menu. So don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. You won’t be disappointed!

The food was so delicious. I have been to other Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurants in Hamburg and honestly this is the best. Most of the restaurants use a lot of spices and just call it Ethiopian food but this was not the case here. The chef put his heart into the meal. And the spices in the food were balanced and not dominant . The food was also fresh and very very delicious. I would only recommend this restaurant if anyone is looking for Eritrean or Ethiopian food. It’s not a fancy place but it was worth it. I will definitely be going...
