Good choice for having Indonesian food in Hamburg. The atmosphere is reminiscent of authentic Indonesia. Accessible from S-bahn and would love if the payment can be made by card. Cendol is the best thing I’m always craving for. Also, ayam kremes, nasi goreng (fried rice) and kwetiaw goreng (fried thick rice noodle) are sooo delicious Apart from their tasty food, most of the time, staffs are unfriendly. When I asked something in Bahasa Indonesia, I was expecting to get response with the same language as they are Indonesians. Nevertheless, they replied with Deutsch. For some reason, we came here to feel at home. Wish to be better in many ways in the future.

When i heard there's a Indonesian restaurant in Hamburg, my heart start pounding rapidly and all i wanna do is goin there. But well...maybe i was expected too high, or maybe it just was not my day. When my first step reached the door, a waitress came toward us, i assume at the same time, she want to left the room. Then she saw me and my friend, and suddenly frowned. And i was like, what the heck? Then she asked us, so curtly, in German, how many person we were, where we want to sit, cleaned the table, and then gave us the Speisekarte. She gave us nothing but a bad, unfriendly tone for a normal conversation between a waitress and customer. We called her again after that, ready to order our food. I called her with "Hallo" and she didnt respond. "Hallo" i said again. With a subtle tone, totally. Suddenly, she stopped washing the table, gave me a terrible glare, and said, "Ja ich komm doch gleich!" Wow. I did not expect that, pal. I ordered hot tea and wasnt aware that they have some options of the taste. And she said, "Welche?" Again, in a curtly tone. "Teh panas" i said. "Ja, welche?" Again, in a not-so-friendly tone. "Ah, ok. Schwarze" i said. And then later she gave me Jasmine tea. Ok, its okay, not a big deal. But the way she served us, unfortunately make us uncomfortable. As an Indonesian, i always told to be always kind, polite, and well mannered. Well thats why maybe Indonesians are popular with that kinda stereotype. I know that we are not in Indonesia, but at least every customer need to be well-served. I work in Gastronomy so i know what she did to us is simply unappropriate. The food? Is amazing! Cant complain anything and they serve more than generous amount portion. Thank you for the food, and thank you for nothing for the service 🙂.

This is our second time visiting the restaurant, and the taste of the food is consistent. The portions are quite big, so if you are ordering a daging rendang, for example, it is best to be shared with another person. I personally find the amount of oil in the dish to be a lot, but maybe this is how it's supposed to be (see photos). The cendol is so delicious, and overall, the waiting time is not long. It is also best to bring cash since this place has no working card machine. If you are looking for an authenticity, this restaurant is the best place for it.

Update: visited again in Sept 2022 We tried different dishes and all were so delicious, authentic! Fried fish with sambal terasi, eggplant & sweet sour bebek. Food here is no doubt very tasty. BUT I'm reducing my 5 ⭐ to only 2 ⭐ because both service staff were super unfriendly and very arrogant. Customer service 0! Feb 2022: It's definitely authentic! So happy to have found a good delicious Indonesian restaurant in Hamburg. Gado gado, es cendol, pangsit bebek, emping - enak banget! I immediately see Indonesia! You get the original teh botol here.

The best place to try Indonesian food in Hamburg has to be Jawa. :) We ordered M10 & M12 from the Lunch menu and it was one of the best choice we made coz the food was extremely delicious as well as the side sauce ( red garlic Chutney) makes it even more tasty :) Highly recommended to try this as well as the ambience is pretty good very calm and quiet which makes having lunch here more pleasant and ofcourse the staff is very helpful as they converse in both German and English which is a plus point :) Please do visit here :)

This is a genuine Indonesian restaurant, one of very few in Hamburg, located a bit off the beaten path. It’s more or less a family restaurant. The interior is nice and spacious. The food is good, and quality is consistent. The staff is professional, but not exceedingly friendly and rather a bit cold. The restaurant only accepts cash. We have been here many times and enjoy a genuine Indonesian dish, in spite of the service. The menu is very extensive. The opening hours are odd - the restaurant is only open for lunch.
