I visited Restaurant Mohr in Heidelberg with my family. The evening began without any problems but ended in a deeply disturbing and unacceptable situation.
Toward the end of our visit, the restaurant owner suddenly accused us of having damaged the card reader, an accusation we firmly denied. In fact, both my uncle and I paid without any issues using the device, clearly showing that it was functioning. Despite our repeated explanations, we were asked to pay over €700, without any proof of damage and without a proper invoice. Instead, we were handed only a handwritten note on loose paper, containing just the owner’s IBAN and the amount to be paid. I did not see a broken device, and there was no evidence, only the owner’s claim.
Even if the device had actually been damaged (which we dispute), a guest is not legally obligated to pay for broken equipment belonging to the restaurant.
When we questioned this demand, the situation escalated. Three large bouncers actively blocked the exits and prevented us from leaving the premises. After my senior 60-year-old uncle exchanged firm words with them, he was thrown to the ground and restrained by several men. His partner, a woman, was also pushed to the floor and injured. My partner and I were surrounded and also prevented from leaving. We felt extremely unsafe and under pressure.
Even after we had exited the restaurant, my uncle was once again pushed to the ground and restrained by the same three men, who stood on him with their feet.
This experience was traumatizing, aggressive, and completely unacceptable.

Despite our repeated explanations, we were asked to pay over €700, without any proof of damage or a proper invoice. I did not even see the damaged machine. Instead, we were handed a handwritten note on loose paper, listing only an IBAN number and the amount to be paid.
Even if the machine was damaged, customers are not liable for damaged restaurant equipment, especially not over 700 EUR.
When we questioned this demand, the situation escalated. Three large staff members physically blocked us from leaving the restaurant. The bartender was extremely unfriendly and arrogant. The food was nothing special and below average. :-( There also was an embarrassing incident, we happened to witness.. the bouncer, who seemed very insecure btw, screamed at a couple and got physical.. seemed like he really lost his temper.
