This is a decent hotel for the price and would probably come back.
Positives:
Location: amazing location. Right in the middle of the old town. 2 minutes from the bridge. Close to the church and town squares. If coming for Christmas markets, it is 1 minute walk from 1 of the 2 main ones and 5 minutes from the other one. Near the castle.
Large rooms: really big for Europe. Ours was 2 twin beds, which we pushed together and had space for a desk, 2 chairs, and a closet. The bathroom is just ok but clean.
The staff is accommodating and helpful when needed.
Negatives:
The restaurant which seemed always full is IMO the main business of this place. Hence all staff work there except the maid (I think) who is super nice. Reception is always empty, and you have to wait for someone every time. When we checked in, we had to wait 15 minutes in the heat due to the restaurant and were very tired with luggage. When the lady finally showed up, not a hint of acknowledgment or apology for making us wait so long.
Beds: nothing great and don't have sheets; only a blanket. It's my first time in Germany and apparently it's a thing here. The pillows are very thin and soft, and you only get 1 per bed. We had to ask for 2 more. The room does not have slippers or bathrobes.
You need 1 euro to use the safe. You also need to lock the door with the key every time you enter or exit; a bit...
What a gem of a restaurant. A restaurant we had made a reservation at turned out to be closed, so we were looking for somewhere to eat our first night in Heidelberg. We just happened to walk upon this restaurant, which was around the corner from our hotel. They were full for the evening, but the hostess graciously said she could take us for an early dinner if we were done by 7 PM and we gladly agreed.
I have to say first of all, I love the decor which includes musical instruments, suspended with lamps from the ceiling. It makes for a very charming setting. The menu is quite extensive, with wonderful options for everyone. It was hard to make a final selection. Our waitress was lovely and, with her help, we finally settled on the potato soup, beer and a sausage plate for my husband and a small Wiener schnitzel schnitzel for me. She also recommended the local red wine for me, which was absolutely delicious.
We never felt rushed and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and our time there. My husband is still talking about the potato soup. We actually enjoyed the restaurant so much that we tried for another night, but it being Christmas Marker weekend, and without prior reservations, it was impossible. That said, if we return to Heidelberg, we will be sure to visit this lovely...
Read moreMy kid and I both enjoyed the authentic vibe of this historic hotel in the heart of Heidelberg. The central location was awesome, but we were immersed in the hustle and bustle of the restaurants below and the cleanup afterwards. It’s noisy (especially with open windows to catch the breeze) but not unexpected.||Try to park in structure P12 as the hotel offers discount vouchers (10€/night) instead of the usual rate.||We didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant but it looked lovely and the staff were all delightful, especially Dennis (who hooked me up with a much-needed coffee each morning and provided insider tips).||Room Details: large size on the 3rd floor with two twin beds, a standing fan, fridge available but had to be plugged in, no coffee maker, no top sheets (but available in the hallway closet), bathroom had a corner shower,...
