Pfannestiel — Restaurant in Karlsruhe

We ate there with a bigger group, which is why they had a reduced menu with only a few of the usual dishes for us. I was sitting with three other persons and all of us are vegan. None of those dishes were vegan so I asked the waitress if I could just order french fries, to which the answer was a "sure", followed by "actually, I'd have to ask in the kitchen", followed by "probably not, since you can only order stuff that's listed on the limited menu, sorry". Even though the menu did not list french fries, it had currywurst with french fries on it so they surely should have had french fries available. Anyways, the waitress didn't come back, so she probably didn't go to ask in the kitchen. Later a different waitress came and we asked again about vegan food, so she suggested spaetzle with tomato sauce instead of cheese. As I asked about the spaetzle containing eggs, she said she didn't know and would ask in the kitchen. She, too, never came back. Eventually, after an eternity of just sitting there without something to eat, we just got up, paid for our expensive drinks and left.

I know this is a very subjective experience and many other people (even from our group) probably had a much better experience there, but that's just how it was for me (and the three other vegan persons...

One of the best places to eat of you're looking for delicious food with a German accent. The Other Penne Bolognese was the best I've had after 2 weeks of holiday in Italy - they can't touch this. The pizza Hawaii - the same, with great taste and not burned! The local dish "Plate Pfannenstiel" had the best pork stake I've tasted in years and the Wiener Schnitzel was good. Last bit not least, they're open on a Monday! Whenever I'll visit Karlsruhe again, you'll find me eating here!

PS Make sure you have cash with you as the payment device struggles with debit cards and didn't accept...

We attended the pub quiz and that was quite fun, though it does require a German background for a large part of it. The food was pretty good and there's a fairly large range of casual drinks but the service definitely requires improvement. The people do a great job but there's a small lack of coordination that was felt. It's a very popular spot and I enjoyed the overall experience with the people...
